VOLLEYBALL REGISTERS 3-2 VICTORIES OVER DAEMEN AND CALDWELL AT POST INVITATIONAL

Waterbury, Conn. – Freshman outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded 15 kills over Daemen College and senior right side Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) registered a career-high 23 kills against Caldwell University to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a pair of 3-2 wins on the first day of the Post University Eagles Invitational on Saturday at the Drubner Center.

Le Moyne opened the match by winning the first set, 25-22. Daemen evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Dolphins regained the lead with a 25-23 win in the third set. The Wildcats stayed alive in the match with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set. Le Moyne closed out the match with a 15-13 victory in the fifth set.

Talty hit .237 en route to her career-best 15 kills, including five in the third set, while adding two digs and a block. Senior outside hitter Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) also landed 15 kills, while posting four digs and one block. Miller was the third Dolphin with double-digit kills with 12, while adding eight blocks, four digs and two service aces. Sophomore setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) directed the offense with 50 assists, while adding 13 digs for her third double-double of the season. Senior libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led all players in the match with a season high-tying 21 digs.

Jenn Heritz led four Wildcats with double-digit kills with 16, while adding four digs and two blocks. Sam Logan and Cristina Apostol each posted 14 kills, while Logan tallied 17 digs and Apostol hit .333. Meghan Ballou finished with 11 kills, six blocks and three digs. Isa McCaffrey handed out 41 assists, while Ali Greenwood and Georgia Wicker each turned in 13 digs.

Against Caldwell, the Dolphins took the first set, 25-22. The Cougars answered back with a 25-19 victory in the second set to even the match at one apiece. Caldwell took the lead with a 25-22 win in the third set. The Dolphins countered with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set to force the decisive fifth set. Le Moyne captured the victory by winning the fifth set, 17-15.

Miller's 23 kills, five of which came in each of the second, third and fifth sets, are tied for the sixth-most by a Dolphin in a match over the last 16 seasons and are the most since Morgan McDermott '13 landed 23 at Southern New Hampshire on October 22, 2011. Miller added nine digs, five blocks and two assists to her line, while hitting .389. Dillon and Talty each recorded 12 kills and three digs in the match, while Talty added three blocks. Junior middle blocker Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) was the fourth Dolphin in double figures with 10 kills. As she had in the first match of the day, Yancone dished out 50 assists and posted 13 digs, while turning in five kills. Porr led the Dolphins defensively with 34 digs, including 10 in the first set. Junior defensive specialist Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) posted 13 digs, including seven in the first set.

Marina Schlaepfer led the Cougars in the setback with a double-double of 17 kills and 11 digs, while adding six blocks. Elise Smith also turned in a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Katie Compagno registered 13 kills in the match as well. Samantha Ashton and Jordan Hoffman split the setting duties with 23 and 19 assists, respectively, while Hoffman tallied 13 digs. Humiko Stormer led the Cougars defensively with 20 digs.

Le Moyne (5-1) closes out play at the Post Invitational on Sunday by taking on New York Institute of Technology at 3:30 p.m. and the host Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
