Rochester, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the RWC Tennis Complex.
The Dolphins opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition for the fifth time this season. At the first position, juniors
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.) registered a 6-1 win over Bijisha Shrestha and Salome Darsalia for the first victory. Juniors
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and
Maggie Scanlon (Orchard Park, N.Y./Nardin Academy) clinched the point for the Dolphins with a 6-2 win at the third spot over Sophie Farnholz and Charity Hinman. Freshman
Marta Perez (Vigo, Spain/Northside Christian School (Fla.)) and sophomore
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) improved to 9-2 in dual matches with a 6-2 victory at the second position over Laura Freeman and Carolyn Graham.
Le Moyne won four of the six matches in the singles competition. Shrestha won by retirement at the second spot over Peters to even the match at one apiece. Perez gave the Dolphins the lead back by sweeping Darsalia at the third position, 6-0, 6-0, for her 11th win of the season. Humala moved to 6-1 in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the fifth spot over Farnholz. Fernandez clinched the match for the Dolphins with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Graham at the fourth position to improve to 7-2 in dual matches. Hinman edged Scanlon at the sixth spot, 5-7, 6-0, 12-10, for Roberts Wesleyan's second point. Nunez collected her 12th victory of the season by defeating Freeman at the first position, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).
Le Moyne (11-3) opens Northeast-10 Conference Championship action on Wednesday as the fourth seed with a first round matchup against fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University at 1:00 p.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
