MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO COLGATE IN SPRING OPENER, 5-2

Hamilton, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team fell to Colgate University, 5-2, in its Spring season opener on Sunday afternoon at the Sanford Field House.
 
The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in the match by earning the point for the doubles competition. At the first position, sophomore Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and junior Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) recorded a 6-3 win over Jack Ablon and Rohan Gupta. Seniors Xavier Graells (Castellar del Vallès, Spain/IES Castellar/Harford Community College) and Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) teamed for a 6-4 victory at the second spot over Noah Rosenblat and Tyler Krantz. Alec Dardis and Peter Hartman prevented the Le Moyne sweep with a 6-4 win at the third position over senior Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and freshman Gerardo Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/Apostille School).
 
Colgate won five of the six matches in the singles competition to earn the victory. At the top spot, Scott Bickel was a 6-0, 7-5 win over Jarry, who was making his Dolphin debut. Rosenblat tallied back-to-back 6-4 wins at the second position over Blythe. Ablon earned the point at the fourth spot over sophomore Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), 7-5, 6-0. In the closest match of the afternoon, Gupta edged Graells at the fifth position, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Hartman won at the sixth spot over graduate student Sven Gopfrich (Erlangen, Germany/Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium Erlangen/Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg), 6-1, 6-3. Hernandez earned Le Moyne's second point of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the third position over Dardis.
 
Le Moyne (1-1) returns to action on Saturday, February 23 by hosting Daemen College at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt at 4:30 p.m.
