Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Junior pitcher
Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tossed six scoreless innings to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 1-0 win over Lock Haven University on Saturday afternoon at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament at the Ned Donkle Complex. Le Moyne's second scheduled game of the day against Kutztown University was postponed until Sunday due to inclement weather.
Following five and one-half innings of scoreless action, the Dolphins plated the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth with a hit and one Lock Haven error. Junior catcher
Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) reached on a throwing error by the catcher to open the frame and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore shortstop
Kaily LaForce (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton). After senior designated player
Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) singled to move Nicolosi to third, Nicolosi raced home on a passed ball for the eventual winning run.
Bellrose struck out six over her six innings, while scattering three hits, to earn her first win of the season. Sophomore righty
Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) retired all three batters she faced in the seventh, including two via strikeout, to collect her first save of the campaign. Bekah Slattery, one of 50 players from across Division II named to the Schutt Sports/National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Player of the Year watch list, was the tough-luck loser after yielding one run and five hits over six innings, while striking out nine.
Le Moyne (2-1), which has defeated the Bald Eagles four straight years in Myrtle Beach, concludes play at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament with a pair of games on Sunday. The Dolphins take on Clarion University at 10:00 a.m. and faces Kutztown at 12:00 p.m.
