WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ADVANCES TO NE10 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH 42-28 WIN OVER NEW HAVEN

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's basketball team used a 31-11 second half en route to defeating third-seeded University of New Haven in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships semifinals on Thursday night at Ted Grant Court.

With the victory, the Dolphins advance to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship game for the second time in the program's 23 years in the conference. The Dolphins, the top seed in the Southwest Division, will host Bentley University, the top seed in the Northeast Division, on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the conference title and the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Championships. The Dolphins' lone previous championship game appearance came against American International in 2002. While the Dolphins are playing for their first conference championship, the Falcons will be attempting to win their 21st in 29 title game appearances and seventh in nine years.

Junior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was the only player in the game to score in double digits, finishing the game with 11 points, while adding four rebounds and two assists. Graduate student forward Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) grabbed a game-best 14 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end. Freshman forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) tallied eight second-half points and grabbed five rebounds.

The 28 points allowed are the fewest against a Division II opponent in the program's history and are the fewest against any opponent since a 72-23 win over Utica College during the 1993-94 season. Overall, the 28 points are the fourth-fewest in the program's history. Le Moyne's 42 points are the team's fewest in a win since a 40-33 win at Saint Anselm on January 5, 2011.

Alexandria Kerr, a first team all-conference selection, led the Chargers in the loss with eight points, including four in each half. Micah Wormack led the team in rebounds with 11, including nine in the first half.

The Dolphins scored six of the first eight points of the game and led 6-4 after the first quarter.

New Haven scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take a 12-6 lead. Kim Talley recorded four of the eight points.

After Roberts scored five points around a three-point play by Luzdali Ocasio, Kerr gave the Chargers a 17-11 lead at halftime with a jumper with 13 seconds left.

After the teams split the first eight points of the third quarter, the Dolphins scored 11 straight points to take control of the game. Redshirt sophomore guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) started the run with a three-pointer, Roberts followed with a three-pointer and then Zimmerman knocked down a jumper and a three-pointer for a 26-21 lead after 30 minutes of play.

Katia Oge scored the first three points of the fourth quarter to get the Chargers within two, but Zimmerman drained another three-pointer and junior forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) followed with a lay-up for a 31-24 lead with 7:28 to play.

Following a pair of baskets in the paint by Brie Pergola around a Millea jumper to get New Haven within 33-28 with 6:07 left, the Dolphins scored the last nine points of the game. Senior guard Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) made two foul shots, Roberts drilled her third three-pointer of the game, Millea made a fast-break lay-up off a steal and then Corcoran ended the game's scoring with two free throws with 34 seconds remaining.
