MEN’S TENNIS CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH 7-0 WIN OVER SAINT MICHAEL’S ON “SENIOR DAY”

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team clinched the fourth seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships with a 7-0 win over Saint Michael's College in the regular season finale for both teams on Friday afternoon at Elevate Fitness.

The Dolphins (12-8, 6-3 NE10) will open NE10 Championships play on Tuesday against fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University. The Dolphins and Ravens will play at the Skytop Tennis Courts at 2:00 p.m. if weather permits or at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt at 12:30 p.m. if forced indoors.

Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles competition. Junior Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) and graduate student Sven Gopfrich (Erlangen, Germany/Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium Erlangen/Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg) earned the first win of the day with a 6-1 victory over Constantin Krogh and Ivan Llona at the third position. At the second spot, seniors Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and Xavier Graells (Castellar del Vallès, Spain/IES Castellar/Harford Community College) registered a 6-4 win over Matt Mosher and Jake Remillard. Senior Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and freshman Gerardo Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/Apostille School) completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over Dan Foley and Max Allen.

Gopfrich recorded the first win of the singles competition, 6-0, 6-0, at the fifth position over Remillard to improve to 7-2 in conference play. Underwood remained unbeaten in NE10 play with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Llona. Graells registered his program-best 20th win of the year – and clinched the match for the Dolphins – by defeating Mosher at the third position, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was a 6-2, 6-1 at the fourth spot over Krogh. Sophomore Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) recorded back-to-back 6-1, 6-1 wins at the first position over Foley. Hernandez closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Allen at the second spot.
