Garden City, N.Y. – Designated player Hannah Pineda homered to lead Adelphi University to a rain-shortened 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College softball team on Friday morning in Northeast-10 Conference action at Janet L. Ficke Field.
After the Dolphins left the bases loaded in the top of the third inning, the Panthers struck for their three runs in the bottom of the frame. Catcher Nicoletta Cuccio led off with a single through the left side and second baseman Emily Whitman followed with a bunt single to third base. After a fly out, Pineda launched a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left center for her fifth home run of the season.
Following a lengthy lightning delay in the top of the fifth inning, the game was called due to rain after the third out of the frame.
Sophomore
Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) suffered the loss after yielding three runs and five hits over four innings, while striking out five. Ally Muller earned her 18th win of the season after striking out five over five scoreless innings.
Le Moyne (21-16, 13-7 NE10, 11-5 SW), which locked up the third seed in next week's NE10 Championships, closes out the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Panthers at 1:00 p.m.
