BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER AT AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 3-5, 13-3

Springfield, Mass. – Four different Dolphins drove in multiple runs to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 13-3 win over American International College in the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Bedard Field. The Yellow Jackets rallied for a 5-3 win in the opener.

The Dolphins started the scoring in the nightcap with two runs in the second inning. Redshirt senior first baseman Andrew Taft (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton/Buffalo) led off the frame with a home run to right field. After senior designated hitter Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) reached on a throwing error by the second baseman, junior third baseman/right fielder Nicholas Jacques (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) reached on a fielding error by the shortstop. Junior center fielder Justin Tuey (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) then doubled down the left field line to drive in Place.

Le Moyne added a run in the fourth without getting a hit. Freshman second baseman Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) walked with two outs, stole second and came around to score as sophomore catcher Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) reached on a throwing error by the shortstop.

The Dolphins plated a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Freshman shortstop Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was hit by a pitch to start the inning, took second as senior catcher/third baseman Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington) reached on a fielding error by the third baseman and moved to third on a walk by Taft to load the bases. Following a pair of outs, Nevins scored on a passed ball. Tuey then singled through the left side to knock in Spinoso.

American International got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Third baseman Matt Costanza led off with a single down the left field line and moved to third on a one-out single through the right side by first baseman Matthew Elliott. Catcher Eugene Quirk then singled through the left side to drive in Costanza.

The Yellow Jackets scored another run in the sixth. Second baseman Brendan Carter walked to open the inning, moved to second on a single to center by center fielder Josh Aviles and took third on a fly out. Designated hitter Anthony Clark then grounded out to the first baseman to knock in Carter.

The Dolphins got the run back in the seventh. Spinoso led off with a single to center, took second on a single by Taft, moved to third on a single by Place and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Jacques.
