Rindge, N.H. –The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened Northeast-10 Conference play with a 6-1 win over Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Dolphins claimed the first point of the day by winning two of the three matches in the doubles competition. At the third position, freshman
Marta Perez Fernandez (Vigo, Spain/Northside Christian School (Fla.)) and sophomore
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) swept Sarah Rich and Jillian Pagliuca, 6-0. Himani Mor and Liria Loria evened the doubles play at one apiece with a 6-2 win at the first spot over sophomore
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and freshman
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil). Juniors
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.) clinched the points for the Dolphins by edging Laura Alvarez Tello and Jazmin Flood at the second position, 7-6.
The Dolphins won five of the six matches in the singles competition. At the first position, Oz improved to 3-0 with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory over Mor. Lilliegren remained unbeaten (3-0) in dual matches in her collegiate career by rallying to defeat Laura Alvarez Tello at the third spot, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Peters blanked Rich at the fourth position, 6-0, 6-0, to pick up her second dual win of the season. Perez Fernandez moved to 3-0 on the year by shutting out Pagliuca at the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-0. Fernandez closed out the match with an 8-2 win at the sixth position over Flood. Loria earned Franklin Pierce's point by knocking off Nunez at the second spot, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
Le Moyne (3-0, 1-0 NE10) returns to New Hampshire to take on Saint Anselm College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
