Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 7-0 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition for the second time this season. At the first position, sophomore
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and freshman
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) improved to 7-2 on the season with a 6-1 win over Alessa Matuty and Zoe Chin. Juniors
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.) moved to 2-0 in NE10 play with a 6-1 victory at the second spot over Anna Higgins and Cindy Luo. Freshman
Marta Perez (Vigo, Spain/Northside Christian School (Fla.)) and sophomore
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) improved to 6-0 in dual matches by defeating Grace Bennett and Alyssa Cook at the third position, 6-1.
Le Moyne swept the singles competition for the third time to conclude the victory. Nunez earned her second win of the season at the first position, 6-0, 6-4, over Matuty. Lilliegren improved to 6-0 in dual matches by downing Bennett at the second spot, 6-1, 6-0. Peters blanked Higgins at the third position, 6-0, 6-0, for her fifth victory of the campaign. Perez also posted a shutout, 6-0, 6-0, over Cook at the fourth spot to remain undefeated in dual matches (6-0). Fernandez recorded Le Moyne's third 6-0, 6-0 victory of the day, topping Luo at the fifth position to move to 4-0 in dual matches. Junior
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) rounded out the victory by defeating Miruna Constantin, 6-0, 6-1, at the sixth spot.
Le Moyne (6-0, 4-0 NE10), which has won its first four NE10 matches for the first time in over 15 years, returns to action on Tuesday at American International College at 3:30 p.m.
