Winter Haven, Fla. – The Le Moyne College softball team closed out its play at THE Spring Games with setbacks to St. Cloud State University and the University of Bridgeport on Thursday at the DiamondPlex. The Dolphins fell to St. Cloud State, 3-0, and Bridgeport, 6-1.
St. Cloud State scored the only run it would need in the third inning as shortstop Sydney Trees led off the frame with a home run.
The Huskies added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. After left fielder Brooke Bowlin singled in between a pair of outs, designated player Jasmin Estrada launched a home run.
Junior
Skylar Rechner (Lacombe, Alberta/Lacombe Composite/Corning C.C.) took the loss after yielding three runs and eight hits, while striking out two. Sydney LaPointe struck out six and allowed just two hits to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Le Moyne opened the scoring against Bridgeport with a run in the first inning. Senior catcher
Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) led off the game with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a pair of outs, senior pitcher
Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) reached on an error by the third baseman, which allowed Nicolosi to score.
Bridgeport took the lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Center fielder Cassidy Blackwell drew a walk to start the frame, but was retired at second as catcher Cindy Sanchez reached on a fielder's choice. Following a double by first baseman Sarah Silver, right fielder Meg McFarland singled to drive in Sanchez and Silver.
The Purple Knights plated a run in the bottom of the third. Left fielder Kaira Ramon led off with a single, moved to second on a single by designated player Taylor Yates, took third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Blackwell.
Bridgeport scored three runs in the fifth on three hits and a Le Moyne error. Ramon led off with a double and took third on a one-out single by third baseman Samantha Sabor. Blackwell then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to knock in Ramon. Sanchez followed with a single to plate Sabor. Silver then reached on an error by the shortstop, which allowed Sanchez to score.
Bellrose took the loss after yielding six runs (five earned) and eight hits, while striking out three. Kaite Burawski earned the victory after striking out 14, allowing just the hit to the first batter and retiring the final 19 batters.
