DeWitt, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's tennis team refuses to lose, defeating University of New Haven 4-0 at the Elevate Fitness indoor tennis courts to finish the weekend with two Northeast-10 Conference wins to improve their record to a perfect 8-0.
The contest was originally scheduled to take place Sunday afternoon at the Nottingham High School tennis courts, but Mother Nature intervened and the dual match was moved to Sunday evening at Elevate Fitness.
The Dolphins earned the first point of the day during the doubles portion of the competition. In the number three doubles match, the team of Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) made quick work of Olivia Martinelli and Alexa Orlando, winning by a score of 6-0 to improve to 7-0 on the season. New Haven's Karim Carreras and Lilia Rodriguez defeated Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/Ted Ankara College Foundation HS) and Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) 6-4 in the number one doubles spot, but
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) and
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) took down Gaayatri Shankar and Kacie Banks in the number two doubles match by a score of 6-3 to clinch the point for Le Moyne.
Pepper earned Le Moyne their second point of the evening by defeating Katherine MacPhail 6-3, 6-1 in the number four singles match. Barona bested Shankar 6-2, 6-1 in the number one singles match, and Nunez took down Banks 7-5, 6-3 in the number three singles spot to clinch the match for the Dolphins. Oz was in the midst of a comeback against Carreras in the number two singles match, leading 3-6, 6-2, 3-1 but the match went unfinished as Le Moyne already achieved the win.

"It was a great weekend for the women. We were very focused on Saturday and Sunday. Our ability to never give up really showed through all weekend. We have a four match week coming up so we'll need more focus and positive energy going forward." said Lonczak
