SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER AT SAINT ROSE, 6-5, 1-2

Albany, N.Y. – Freshman Lindsey Dobbs (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie) drove in two runs and earned the win in the circle to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 6-5 win over The College of Saint Rose in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Plumeri Complex. The Golden Knights avoided the four-game series sweep with a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

The Dolphins opened the day's scoring with a run on one hit and one Saint Rose error in the first inning. Sophomore left fielder Jillian Dunn (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) reached on an error by the pitcher to start the game and then stole second. After moving to third on a groundout, Dunn scored on a single by freshman second baseman Brooke Nicolaos (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse).

Saint Rose tied the score at one apiece in the bottom of the third. Center fielder Ciana Phillips led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by third baseman Savanna Liverio.

Le Moyne broke the game open with five runs on six hits and a Saint Rose error in the fifth. Sophomore third baseman Makenzie Konik (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led off with a single, advanced to second on an error by the third baseman and then took third on a wild pitch. Graduate student first baseman Taylor Artley (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) then singled to drive in Konik. After a fly out, Dunn singled and then she and Artley moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt. Artley then raced home on a wild pitch. Nicolaos followed with her second RBI-single of the game to plate Dunn again. After a single by junior catcher Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal), Dobbs doubled to drive in Nicolaos and Barrett and force a Saint Rose pitching change.

The Golden Knights scored three times in the sixth to get within two. First baseman Madison Chandler led off with a single and then catcher Shannon Moore and shortstop Ryane Brush were hit by pitches with one out to load the bases and force a Le Moyne pitching change. Pitcher Sophia Schaub drew a walk as the first batter to force in Chandler. Second baseman McKenna Ryan then singled to drive in Moore, while Brush scored on an error by the shortstop.

Saint Rose scored once in the bottom of the seventh and got the potential winning run on base, but could not cash in. Liverio led off with a single and designated player Alysa Houghtaling followed two batters later with a single. Following a groundout which retired Liverio at third, Brush singled to drive in pinch-runner Morgan Tyrrell. Redshirt freshman Laura Bennett (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) took over in the circle and recorded a strikeout to end the game.

Dobbs recorded two strikeouts over four innings to earn her second win of the season. Bennett retired the only batter she faced to earn her first career save. Nicolaos and Artley each had two of Le Moyne's eight hits. Kylee Warner took the loss for the Golden Knights after allowing six runs (five earned) over four and two-thirds innings.

In the nightcap, Saint Rose scored first with a run in the first inning on one hit and two Le Moyne errors. Phillips walked to start the inning and Houghtaling followed by reaching on a fielder's choice where Phillips moved to second on an error by the pitcher. After an out, Chandler doubled to drive in Phillips.

The Golden Knights took advantage of another Le Moyne error in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Left fielder Taylor Matlock reached on an error by the second baseman to open the frame, stole second and took third on a single by Ryan. Catcher Julia Rupinski followed with a single to knock in Matlock.

Le Moyne cut its deficit in half with a run on one hit in the sixth, but left the tying run at second base. Senior catcher Olivia Littman (Newfane, N.Y./Newfane) walked with one out, stole second and came around to score on a single by Dobbs.

Senior Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) took the loss in the circle after allowing two unearned runs over four innings. Samantha Allen struck out six over six-plus innings to collect the win, while Houghtaling retired all three batters she faced to earn a save.

Le Moyne (7-5, 7-5 NE10), which had its six-game win streak snapped with the game two loss, returns home to host the University of New Haven in a pair of doubleheaders on Tuesday (3:00) and Wednesday (2:00) to make up games which were postponed on March 27 and 28.
