Syracuse, N.Y. – Three members of the Le Moyne College men's tennis team were double winners as the Dolphins defeated Adelphi University, 4-0, in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at Nottingham High School.
With the victory, the Dolphins advance to the NE10 Championship match for the first time in the program's history. Le Moyne will host third-seeded Franklin Pierce University in the finals on Saturday. Weather permitting, the match will be played outdoors at Nottingham High School at 1:00 p.m. If forced indoors, the match will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Elevate Fitness location in DeWitt.
The Dolphins (9-0) opened the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition for the ninth straight match. At the third position, second team all-conference sophomores
Felipe Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rica/Blue Valley School/Saint Louis) and
Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) put the Dolphins up 1-0 with a 6-3 victory over Luke Attride-Stirling and Andrew Ray. The Panthers evened doubles at 1-1 as Pietro Sole and Salomon Arce Lema handed seniors
Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and
James Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) their first loss of the season, 6-4, at the second spot. Senior
Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and fifth-year
Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) clinched the point for the Dolphins with a 7-5 victory over Gabriel Balestero and Valentin Le Goupil-Maier at the first position.
Jarry, who was named to the all-conference second team on Monday, earned his second win of the day by defeating Sole at the second position, 6-1, 6-0 to improve to 6-0 on the season. Blythe moved to 4-0 at the third spot with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Le Goupil-Maier. Cruz improved to 8-1 on the season by defeating David Leader at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-1.
