Flushing, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team earned its first NCAA Championships victory with a 4-2 win over Queens College in the first round of the East Regional on Saturday afternoon at the QC Tennis Courts.

With the victory, the third-seeded Dolphins (11-0) advance to the East Region championship on Sunday against top-seeded Concordia College (N.Y.) at 1:00 p.m. at the QC Tennis Courts.

The Dolphins remained unbeaten on the year in doubles play by winning both matches that finished. Sophomores Felipe Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rica/Blue Valley School/Saint Louis) and Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) improved to 5-0 as a duo with a 6-3 victory at the third position over Omar El Shehawey and Eduardo Marino. Seniors Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and James Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Moritz Borges and Lucas Demuth at the second spot to move to 7-2 on the season.

Demuth opened the singles competition with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the fourth position over James Howard to even the match at one apiece. Jared Howard gave the lead back to the Dolphins by defeating Tim Ostheimer at the top spot, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, to improve to 10-0 on the year. Senior Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) won his eighth match of the season, 6-3, 6-4, at the second position over El Shehawey to give the Dolphins a 3-1 lead. Borges kept the Knights in the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Cruz at the sixth spot. Fifth-year Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston), the only Dolphin remaining from the 2018 team which fell to NYIT in the NCAA Championships, secured the victory for the Dolphins with back-to-back 6-4 scores at the third position over Kareem Rashad.
