Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team is slated to open its season on Wednesday, March 2, as the team's schedule was released on Friday afternoon.
The 17-game schedule will feature eight home games, eight true road games and a neutral-site matchup, including 13 games against Northeast-10 Conference foes and four against non-conference opponents. The slate features eight teams in the USA Lacrosse magazine preseason Top 20 rankings, including all four non-conference games to open the year.
"Our schedule is challenging but will put us in a position to hopefully be competing for NE10 and national titles," said head coach
Liz Beville. "We look forward to competing against the reigning National Champions in Lindenwood and another Top-5 team in UIndy."
The Dolphins, who won the Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division last year by four games after going 12-0 in conference play for their sixth regular season title in 10 full seasons in the conference, will open the season on Wednesday, March 2 at home against Mercy College. The Mavericks, who went 12-2 in 2021 and earned the second seed in the NCAA East Regional before being unable to participate in the tournament, enter 2022 ranked 14th in the USA Lacrosse rankings.
The Dolphins, who return 23 letterwinners from last year's squad, including nine of 12 starters, while adding a graduate transfer and seven freshmen, then travel to the USA Lacrosse facility and William G. Tierney Field in Sparks, Maryland on March 6 to take on defending national champion Lindenwood University, which went 17-1 en route to capturing its first national championship and opens 2022 ranked first by Nike/USA Lacrosse. A week later, the Dolphins welcome the University of Indianapolis to Ted Grant Field. The Greyhounds are second in the USA Lacrosse rankings after going 14-2 last year with both losses coming to Lindenwood, including in the Midwest Region final. The Dolphins conclude their non-conference schedule on March 16 at Roberts Wesleyan College, which won the East Region last year and closed out the year with a 14-2 record.
The 'Phins open NE10 play with back-to-back games on the road. They take on Stonehill College on March 19 and then visit Franklin Pierce University on March 22.
The Dolphins follow with consecutive home games to close out March. Pace University, which is 19th in the USA Lacrosse rankings, comes to The Heights on March 26 looking for its first win over the Dolphins. Four days later, the University of New Haven will look to snap a 10-game losing streak to the Dolphins.
April opens with two straight games on the road. The Dolphins head to Colchester, Vermont for the first time since to 2018 to take on Saint Michael's College on April 2 and then go to American International College on April 5 looking to improve to 14-0 against the Yellow Jackets.
The Dolphins will host Assumption University on April 9 at Onondaga Community College and then welcome Saint Anselm College, which is 20th in the USA Lacrosse rankings, to Ted Grant Field for the first time since 2018 on April 13.
The team's most-anticipated conference game will come on April 16 at Adelphi University, which is ranked 17th in the USA Lacrosse rankings.
The Dolphins wrap up their home schedule with back-to-back games. They host The College of Saint Rose on April 19 and defending NE10 champion Bentley University, which is 16th in the USA Lacrosse rankings, on April 23.
The Dolphins close out the regular season with a pair of contests on the road. They head to Southern Connecticut State University, the only program the Dolphins have played each season since joining the NE10, on April 27 and Southern New Hampshire University on April 30.
The Northeast-10 Conference Championship returns to an eight-team field. The quarterfinals are scheduled for May 4 and will be hosted by the higher seeded squad. The semifinals take place on May 7 and the championship game is slated for May 8 with the highest seeded team after the quarterfinals hosting the final two rounds.
