Garden City, N.Y. – Adelphi University recorded a key victory in the Northeast-10 Conference standings with a 4-3 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.

Adelphi took a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition. Freshmen Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) gave the Dolphins 1-0 lead with a 6-3 win at the third position over Julia Kielan and Carolina Chaves. Sanne Selmer Gilje and Caterina Federici evened the score at one apiece with a 6-4 victory over sophomore Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and junior Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) at the second spot. The Panthers won three of the first four matches to finish in the singles competition to close out the victory. Selmer Gilje gave Adelphi a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the top position over Simeonova. Casares got the Dolphins within one with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Franstedt at the fourth spot to improve to 9-0 on the year in dual matches. Federici pushed her team's lead back to two by topping Alvarez at the third position, 6-4, 6-3. Kielan clinched the match by edging Lilliegren in two tight sets at the fifth spot, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. Pepper earned her sixth straight win and moved to 9-1 on the year with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the sixth position over Chaves. Barona earned the win at the second spot by retirement against Liedbeck after they split the first two sets with 7-5 scores and then were tied 4-4 in the third set.

Le Moyne (6-4, 4-3 NE10) closes out NE10 regular season play on Sunday at the University of New Haven at 12:00 p.m. A Dolphin win keeps open the possibility of the third seed in the upcoming NE10 championship, while a loss will lock the Dolphins into the fifth seed.
