Anderson, S.C. – The Le Moyne College softball team dropped both games of their season opening double-header to #23 Anderson University on Saturday afternoon.
The Anderson Trojans entered Saturday's matchup against the 'Phins with an 11-1 record, while Le Moyne had yet to play a game during the 2022 campaign.
Anderson sophomore right-hander Laken Maxwell pitched five shutout innings to earn the win for the Trojans and recorded 14 strikeouts during game one of the doubleheader.
The Trojans scored seven runs during the bottom of the third inning to break the game open.
The Le Moyne bats came alive during the top half of the second inning during the second game of the doubleheader.
With the 'Phins down 3-0, redshirt-freshman
Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) singled to right field to start the inning. Junior
Mckenzie Bergdoll ripped a double to left field, and sophomore
Brooke Nicolaos (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) drove the ball to right field for a single and an RBI to give the Dolphins their first run of the season.
Jillian Dunn (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) kept the inning going with another RBI single, and both
Isabelle Boudreau (Memramcook, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin/Pace) and
Dominique Rinaldi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) delivered an RBI during the rally. Larobardiere capped the inning off with a three-run homer to left center which gave the Dolphins an 8-3 lead.
Bergdoll pitched a scoreless frame in the bottom of the second, and Dunn singled to left field to give Le Moyne a runner on first with nobody out to start the third inning.
Dominique Russo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) moved Dunn to second, and then Boudreau advanced the runner to third. Dunn was thrown out at home when Rinaldi hit the ball to third base, but Rinaldi scored on a
Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) single to center field to give Le Moyne a 9-3 advantage.
The #23 nationally ranked Trojans scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and six more runs in the 4th inning to claim a 19-9 victory over the Dolphins.
