SOFTBALL FALLS TO HILLSDALE AND DOMINICAN ON FRIDAY

Winter Haven, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team dropped both games of their Friday afternoon doubleheader at The Spring Games. The Dolphins fell to Hillsdale College 12-4 in their first game of the day, then nearly made an incredible comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning during game number two against Dominican College but came up short and lost to the Chargers 7-6.

Le Moyne found themselves trailing Hillsdale 4-0 at the end of the 4th inning.

Junior center fielder Isabelle Boudreau (Memramcook, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin/Pace) hit a one-out base hit ground ball between the second baseman and the bag into center field, then stole second base during the next Le Moyne at-bat to give the 'Phins a runner in scoring position.

Senior catcher Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) came to the plate with two outs in the inning. During her at-bat, Boudreau took third base after a pitch was thrown in the dirt.

Barrett hit a hard ground ball to the right side of the infielder that ate up the second baseman, allowing Boudreau to score and Barrett to reach safely.

Brooke Nicolaos (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) came up next in the four spot, and the sophomore second baseman drove a 1-2 pitch into center field that brought Barrett around to score from second.

Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) smashed a two-run homerun (her second of The Spring Games) over the left field fence to tie the game at 4-4.

Hillsdale responded immediately with three runs scored, including two homeruns, in the bottom of the 5th.

Hillsdale tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the 6th to open up an eight-run lead, which ended the game.

Dominican held a 6-0 lead over the Dolphins in the middle of the 5th during Le Moyne's second game of the day, but the Dolphins got two runs back in the bottom of the inning.

Junior first baseman Mckenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) singled into center field to lead off the inning, then senior outfielder Taylor Cox (Neversink, N.Y./Tri-Valley Secondary School) singled into right field to give the 'Phins runners on first and second with no outs. Victoria Catalano (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) hit a ground ball to move both runners over.

Junior left fielder Dominique Russo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) ripped a single up the middle that drove in both runners to trim Le Moyne's deficit to 6-2.

Dominican got a run back in the top of the 6th.

In the bottom of the 7th, Le Moyne was down to their final out, trailing 7-2, with runners on second and third. Russo hit another single up the middle to score Mackenzie Konik (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and move Cox to third.

Barrett hit a hard ground ball up the middle to drive in Cox and trim the deficit to 7-4. Nicolaos hit the ball to the shortstop next, but the throw to first pulled the Dominican first baseman off the bag, allowing Russo to score from third.

Dybacz hit a ground ball down the third base line for an RBI single to make it 7-6, but the Dominican pitcher got an infield pop-up to end the game.

The Le Moyne College softball team will play their final doubleheader of The Spring Games tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. against Shepherd University and Wayne State University.
