SOFTBALL SET TO PLAY FINAL FOUR GAMES OF REGULAR SEASON AT HOME THIS WEEKEND AND WILL CELEBRATE SENIOR DAY ON SATURDAY

4/28/2022 8:02:00 PM

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team will play the final four games of their regular season this weekend on their home field.

On Friday afternoon the Dolphins will play a doubleheader against the visiting #25 Adelphi University Panthers at the Softball Complex, with game one's first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m., then the 'Phins will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday at the Softball Complex against Pace University. Le Moyne will celebrate their four senior student-athletes (Cassidy Barrett, Maddy Sehnert, Taylor Cox, and Victoria Catalano) immediately before the conference doubleheader, which is set to begin at noon as well.

With four games to go Le Moyne is sitting just outside the conference playoff picture. The top eight teams in the NE10 standings advance to the conference tournament, and the Dolphins are currently in ninth place with a 10-12 record, behind Assumption and New Haven who both have 11-11 conference resumes.

#25 Adelphi, who just jumped into the most recent NCFA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, sits atop the NE10 standings with a 18-4 conference record, while the Pace University Setters are in fourth place in the NE10 with 14 wins and eight losses against conference competition.

There will be plenty of talent to watch in the circle during both of these weekend conference doubleheaders. Four of the most dominant arms in the NE10 will be going to work inside the Le Moyne College Softball Complex on Friday and Saturday.

Le Moyne redshirt-sophomore right-hander Laura Bennett (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post), Claire Fon and Lindsey Hibbs of Adelphi, and Pace's Gisselle Garcia have the four highest strikeout totals this season of all pitchers in the conference.

Hibbs has the most Ks in the NE10 with 236 on the season, including 130 strikeouts during conference contests. Bennett's 112 total strikeouts during NE10 battles is the second most in the conference, and she has 175 on the season. Garcia has the third most conference Ks with 106, and Fon's 74 strikeouts against NE10 opponents is fourth best in the conference.

Bennett and Garcia have each pitched 10 complete games in conference play. Bennett has earned seven NE10 pitching decision victories, while Hibbs and Garcia have each recorded eight, and Fon has earned 10 so far for the Panthers.

Fon and Hibbs have been a dominant duo in the circle all season long for the Panthers. Fon, who will likely match up with Bennett during game one of Friday's doubleheader, is 18-4 on the year with a 0.91 earned run average. Fon has thrown 13 complete games and eight shutouts in 25 starts. In 138.2 innings pitched so far in 2022 she has allowed just 18 earned runs.

Through 29 appearances and 21 starts this season, in 143.1 innings pitched Hibbs is 17-6 with a 1.56 ERA. She has thrown 15 complete games and 10 shutouts.

Redshirt-freshman infielder Courtney Wengryn hits at the top of the lineup for the Panthers and has put together a .386 batting average through 43 starts. Wengryn has 35 RBI, 12 doubles and five home runs so far this season. Wengryn and sophomore first baseman Faith Camilleri are both top five in the NE10 in RBI. Cammileri has six home runs and 32 RBI in 2022. First year outfielder Ziara Shreter and sophomore catcher Alexa Sacripante both have over 50 hits so far on the season for Adelphi. Shreter leads the conference in runs scored with 40, and stolen bases with 23. Sacripante has an NE10-leading 16 doubles so far this season along with 29 RBI and 28 runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Jaden Farhat hits .320 with nine doubles, three home runs, 26 RBI and 21 runs scored through 46 starts for the Panthers.

The Dolphins took down a ranked opponent earlier in the season when they earned a 2-1 win over then #4 nationally ranked University of Indianapolis at The Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida. UIndy's early season top-five ranking turned out not to be a fluke either, as the Greyhounds have gone 24-4 since losing to the Dolphins and are currently sitting at #2 in the most recent NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

For the Setters, Zoie Iverson, Alexandra Tejeda, Gwen Pederson, Brianna Shea, and NancyAnn Revilla are each hitting above .300 on the season. Iverson, Pederson and Shea each have at least 20 RBI so far in 2022.

On Saturday, Le Moyne will honor four seniors who have each made great contributions to the softball program since they arrived on The Heights in 2018. Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal), Maddy Sehnert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Taylor Cox (Neversink, N.Y./Tri-Valley Secondary School), and Victoria Catalano (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) have each displayed excellence with integrity throughout their careers as Dolphins and will be celebrated for the positive contributions that they have made as members of the Le Moyne College Athletic Community.

For the Dolphins, senior catcher CJ Barrett has been a crucial member of the lineup as the three-hitter and catcher. Through 22 NE10 battles so far this season Barrett is tied for third in the conference with 27 hits. Barrett is hitting .388 on the season with a .455 on base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage. She has five doubles, two home runs, 18 RBI and 14 walks.

In her last 10 games, Barrett has gone 14 for 29 at the plate with six RBI

First year utility player Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), who hits behind Barrett in the cleanup spot for the 'Phins, leads the team in RBI with 22 through 36 games started. Dybacz has a team-high seven doubles and three home runs, and just like Barrett, she has great plate discipline. Both Barrett and Dybacz have taken over 100 at-bats this season, and both have recorded less than 10 strikeouts.

Catalano has been swinging the bat well lately, as well as making plays out in right field. Cox has produced when inserted into the lineup this season and is a great option for the 'Phins to have as a pinch runner during late-game situations.

Redshirt-freshman Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) is also someone the 'Phins turn to in late-game situations. In her first year on The Heights Larobardiere has made plenty of starts at third base, but when she is not in the lineup, she is someone the 'Phins will utilize as a pinch hitter. Larobardiere has three home runs, including one pinch-hit home run, and 11 RBI so far this season.

First year players Dominique Rinaldi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and Elaina Kassap (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) have both gained tons of experience this season making their starts primarily at the corner infield positions. Rinaldi made an outstanding diving catch at third base on a rocket line drive during the 'Phins most recent game against Bentley, while Kassap has displayed her athleticism on a number of plays when charging in to cover a bunt at first base.

Junior Makenzie Konik (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) started the season playing third base but made the move to shortstop before conference play and has been in the middle of Le Moyne's infield ever since. Konik has a smooth glove and a strong arm at short and has put together a .313 on base percentage for the 'Phins.

Junior Dominique Russo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) has been very reliable for the 'Phins in left field through 35 starts so far this season as she is a very smart player with a great competitive spirit.
