Syracuse, N.Y. – The 45th-ranked Le Moyne College men's tennis team won its program-record 14th match of the season, 7-0, over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
The 14 wins eclipse the previous high-water mark of 13 set by the 2017-18 team and equaled by the 2018-19 team.
"Senior day is always a bit bittersweet as we hate the idea of the end of a career as a Dolphin," said head coach
Jeff Lonczak '03. "The truth is, we're Dolphins forever. It was a special day as James and
Jared Howard celebrated their senior day. They're all-time greats on and off the court. It also was a program-record 14th victory. While that's a great accomplishment, our focus is on Saturday in Philly against USciences."
The Dolphins, who clinched a top-four seed in the NE10 Championships, won the point in the doubles competition for the 11th straight match. At the first position, graduate student
Manuel Righi (Bologna, Italy/IPC Manfredi - ITC Tanari/Concordia (N.Y.)/Universita di Bologna) and freshman
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) claimed their 11th consecutive victory, 6-4, over Louis Coppi and Christian Duffy. Fifth years
Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and
James Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) defeated G. Duhil de Benaze and Luke Nickerson, 6-2, at the second spot. Freshman
Xavier Branagan (Wollstonecraft, Australia/St. Aloysius' College) and junior
Erik Adler (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria College) recorded a 6-2 win at the third position over Juan Riano Rojas and Ben Simmons.
Le Moyne swept the singles competition for the fourth straight NE10 match. At the first position, fifth year
Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) earned his 14th win of the season, 6-4, 6-1, over Duhil de Benaze. Righi improved to 11-0 win a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Duffy at the second spot. Junior
Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) tallied his 10th win of the campaign with back-to-back scores of 6-2 against Coppi at the third position.
James Howard posted his fourth straight victory, 6-2, 6-3, at the fourth spot over Nickerson. Branagan was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the fifth position over Rojas to improve to 5-0 on the year. Adler completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Simmons at the sixth spot for his second straight victory.
Le Moyne (14-1, 5-0 NE10) returns to action on Saturday against the University of the Sciences at the Hamlin/Hecht Center on the campus of UPenn at 5:00 p.m.
