10TH-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE PULLS AWAY IN SECOND HALF FOR 16-9 VICTORY OVER 18TH-RANKED ASSUMPTION

Syracuse, N.Y. – Graduate student midfielder Sydney Meagher (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored four goals to lead the 10th-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 16-9 victory over 18th-ranked Assumption University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

"I'm so proud of our second half efforts today," said head coach Liz Beville. "After a close first half, we made the appropriate adjustments and started to really execute our game plan. Erin McMullen and Taylor Reich were dominant on the draw circle, Paige (Crandall) and our defensive unit made big stops and our attack played with speed with seven goal scorers. Syd (Meagher) and Gemma (Addonizio) were difference makers in the offensive end today. We look forward to another NE10 match up next week!"

The Dolphins opened the game with a pair of goals over the first 71 seconds. Meagher started the scoring at the 14:09 mark with her 15th goal of the season. Just 20 seconds later, freshman attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) potted her seventh goal of the year.

Jill Good got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard at the 10:54 mark by finishing off a pass from Jenna Joseph for her 19th goal of the year.

Le Moyne regained its two-goal lead just over two minutes later as graduate student attacker Erin McMullen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) tallied her 30th goal of the season.

Assumption scored the final two goals of the quarter to tie the score. Alison Foley recorded her 25th goal of the season with 7:07 left off a free-position shot. Just 61 seconds later, Olivia Catanzarite posted her 18th goal of the year.

The Greyhounds continued their run with the first goal of the second quarter as Grace Chicko scored off a dish from Jenna Joseph.

Sophomore attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) snapped Le Moyne's scoring drought of almost 16 and one-half minutes with her 12th goal of the campaign at the 7:25 mark. The Dolphins took advantage of a yellow card on the Greyhounds to regain the lead as junior attacker Gemma Addonizio (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) scored off a dish from McMullen with 3:14 left.

Assumption tied the score once again with 1:23 remaining in the second as Isabelle Edwards netted her fifth goal of the year off a pass from Joseph.

Le Moyne scored the first three goals of the third quarter to take the lead for good. Meagher ignited the run at the 13:02 mark with her 16th goal of the year. Senior attacker Jessica Meneilly (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) followed with her team-best 38th goal of the season with 11:18 left after collecting a feed from classmate Adrianna Nojaim (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee). Addonizio capped the spurt at the 6:01 mark with her 16th goal of the campaign while being cross-checked to the ground.

The Greyhounds got on the scoreboard in the half at the 4:31 mark as Ella Tenney scored her 23rd goal of the year off a pass from Foley in a player-down situation.

Just prior to extra-player opportunity expiring, Hutchings put the Dolphins back up by three after receiving a pass from Detor with 4:00 left. Meagher got the Dolphins into double digits 92 seconds later following a pass from Addonizio.

Foley scored the final goal of the quarter with 1:43 left off a pass from Good to get the Greyhounds within 10-7.

McMullen converted a free-position shot with 9:46 left in the fourth quarter for her 185th career goal.

Catanzarite answered with an extra-player goal with 8:10 remaining to get Assumption within three for the final time.

Le Moyne put the game away with the next three goals and five of the last six. Meneilly started the run with 7:09 left off a feed from Addonizio. Redshirt junior midfielder Katelyn Karleski (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) gave the Dolphins a five-goal lead with 5:37 left after picking up a loose ball and dumping it into the net. After cutting across the crease from the left side, Addonizio fired a behind-the-back shot into the lower left corner with 4:11 remaining for her 17th goal of the year.

Catanzarite capped her team's scoring with 3:35 remaining.

Meagher registered her fourth goal of the afternoon with 1:32 left and then Detor completed the game's scoring with 19 seconds left.

Third-year sophomore goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) earned her eighth win of the season between the pipes after making three saves. In addition to her three points, McMullen had eight draw controls and three ground balls. Senior defender Taylor Reich (Marietta, N.Y./Marcellus) had seven draw controls, three ground balls and caused a turnover. Allie Collins made seven saves in the loss for the Greyhounds.
