12/21/2023 12:15:00 PM

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team will play its first regular season game back at the Division I level on Thursday, February 15, as the team's full schedule was announced on Thursday morning.

"We're thrilled for the upcoming spring season and feel ready to embrace the exhilarating challenge presented by a meticulously curated schedule that promises intense competition both within and outside our conference" said head coach Liz Beville. "We look forward to facing off against a diverse array of opponents and hope to cultivate new rivalries right here in the heart of Upstate New York when we face programs like Cornell, Siena and fellow Jesuit school, Canisius."

The 17-game schedule will feature seven home games and 10 road games, including 10 games against Northeast Conference foes and seven against non-conference opponents.

The Dolphins kick off the schedule at home on February 15 against the University of California, which went 5-13 last year, including 2-8 in the PAC-12. The Bears are making their second trip to Central New York to play the Dolphins and hold a 2-0 series lead (2004 and 2007).

The 'Phins welcome Upstate New York foe Cornell University to Ted Grant Field for the first time on Tuesday the 20th. Cornell, which went 7-8 last year and posted a mark of 3-4 in the Ivy League, beat the Dolphins in 2009 in Ithaca in the only previous matchup between the teams.

The Dolphins play their next three games on the road against MAAC opponents. They close out February on Wednesday the 28th at Niagara, which posted a 12-7 record in 2023, including 5-3 in league play to earn the third seed in the conference tournament and earned a berth in the semifinals. The Dolphins are 13-3 all-time against the Purple Eagles, including wins in 10 of the last 11 meetings. Three days later, the Dolphins head to Siena College to meet the Saints for the 13th time in a series Le Moyne leads 10-2. Siena went 12-7 a season ago, including a 6-2 mark in the MAAC to earn the second seed in the conference tournament, where it advanced to the championship game. The 'Phins wrap up the stretch of road games at Canisius University on Wednesday, March 6. The Dolphins are 12-1 all-time against the Golden Griffs, who went 8-8 last year, including 3-5 in conference play to earn the fifth seed in the MAAC Championship.

Le Moyne opens its first season in the NEC with a pair of home games. Sacred Heart comes to Ted Grant Field for the first time on Saturday the 9th. The Pioneers, who the Dolphins are 3-2 against all-time, are the defending NEC regular season and tournament champion and have won 10 straight conference games dating back to the 2022 season. The following Saturday, Stonehill College returns to Ted Grant Field for the first time since 2019. The Skyhawks went 5-10 last year in its first season at Division I and 5-3 in league play. The Dolphins are 11-4 all-time against the Skyhawks, including 7-0 at home.

The Dolphins rekindle their rivalry with Merrimack College on Saturday the 23rd. The Warriors won the most recent game between the programs, the 2019 NE10 Championship game, after the Dolphins won the first nine in the series, including all five in North Andover. The Warriors are coming off a 4-13 season, including 3-5 in NEC action.

The team returns home to face FDU, which went 1-12 last year in its first season as a program, on the 27th.

The next two games are on the road. The Dolphins head to LIU on Saturday the 30th to face the Sharks, who went 7-10 last year and earned the third seed in the NEC tournament after going 5-3 in league play. The Dolphins went 2-0 against LIU Brooklyn in 2006 and 2007, but are 7-2 against head coach Meghan McNamara-Cafiero during her lengthy career at LIU Post before the two campuses were combined in 2019-20. Four days later, the Dolphins head to Saint Francis University for the first time. The Red Flash went 10-6 last year and were the fourth seed in the conference tournament after tying with LIU at 5-3 in league action. In the only meeting between the programs, the Dolphins defeated the Red Flash in 2010 at Solvay High School.

The Dolphins host two of their next three opponents. Delaware State University comes to the Salt City on Saturday, April 6 for the first meeting between the programs. The Hornets went 2-14 last year, including 0-7 as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Le Moyne then heads to Central Connecticut State on Wednesday the 10th for the third meeting between the programs and first since 2006. The Blue Devils are coming off a 4-11 season, including 2-6 in the NEC. The Dolphins close out their home slate in the regular season on Saturday 13th against Wagner College, which went 9-8 last year, including 7-1 in league play, and advanced to the NEC title game. The Dolphins are 1-2 against the Seahawks with the win coming in Wagner's only visit to Central New York.

The final three games of the regular season are on the road. They head to the University of Vermont on Wednesday the 17th to face the Catamounts, who went 8-8 last year, including 4-2 in America East Conference play to earn the third seed in the league tournament. The Dolphins are 5-3 all-time against the Catamounts, including 2-2 on the road. The Phins close out NEC play on Saturday the 20th at Howard University, which is winless against Division I opponents since April 3, 2014. The meeting with the Bison will be the fourth in the series, which the Dolphins lead 2-1, and the first since 2004. Le Moyne closes out the regular season at the University at Albany on Tuesday the 23rd. The Great Danes, who the Dolphins are 1-7 against all-time, including 0-5 in the Capital Region, are the defending America East regular season and tournament champions and are coming off a 13-7 season, including a 6-0 record in America East play.

The Northeast Conference Championship will feature a six-team field with the first round on April 28 at the higher seeded team and the semifinals and final held on May 2 and 4 at the #1 seed.

The NEC Presidents' Council unanimously voted to eliminate access restrictions to NEC championships during an institution's transition to DI. Consequently, current reclassifying institutions Le Moyne and Stonehill are now eligible to compete in the NEC postseason.
