Cary. N.C. – The Mercy College Mavericks registered a 16-5 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Sunday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
It was the second time in two days that the two teams met in non-conference action, as Le Moyne claimed a 10-6 win over the Mavericks on Saturday.
Janiel Ramirez and Gabe Sanders both recorded three RBIs for Mercy during the team's first win of the season.
Mercy sophomore right-hander Nathan Rodriguez held the Dolphins to four runs in 4.2 innings pitched to earn the win.
Redshirt-sophomore righty
Jordan Goldmann (Encinitas, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy/Palomar College/Grossmont College) started on the mound for the 'Phins and threw 3.1 innings during his Le Moyne debut.
Freshman right-hander
AJ Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) relieved Goldmann during the fourth inning and pitched 1.2 innings during his collegiate debut.
Senior right-hander
Jed Boyle (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Le Moyne, then sophomore righty
Steven Freer (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) allowed one hit and zero runs in the final 2.0 innings.
Junior catcher
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) reached base five times during the setback. Fureno went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI, a walk, and a hit by pitch.
Freshman third baseman/catcher
Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) recorded two hits, a walk and an RBI against the Mavericks.
Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after an RBI double from Ramirez, then the 'Phins tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Senior shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) drew a one-out walk in the second, then Fureno singled through the right side, and Nevins advanced to third base.
Sophomore right fielder
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) lifted the ball over the shortstop's head into shallow left center to drive in Nevins from third and tie the game at 1-1.
Sanders drove a two-RBI single into left-center field in the top of the third to give the Mavs a 3-1 lead, then Mercy tallied eight runs in the fourth to give themselves a 10-run advantage.
Jason Boule (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) drew a two-out bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth to make it 11-2.
Fureno drew a two-out bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth, and Keneston scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to trim Le Moyne's deficit to 11-4.
Mercy tacked on four more runs in the sixth to take a 15-4 lead, then they added another run in the seventh.
Le Moyne scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Freshman infielder
Lukas Egenhauser (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) recorded his first collegiate hit with zero outs and a runner on first, then Keneston drove in senior infielder/pitcher
Philip Zollo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) from second base with a base hit to left field.
Next up, the Dolphins will travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for four games this weekend at The Ripken Experience.
Le Moyne will play a doubleheader against Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., then they will take on University of Bridgeport on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. before they close the weekend with a 9:00 a.m. matchup against the familiar Mercy College Mavericks on Sunday.
