Buffalo, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team had its 23-match regular season win streak snapped on Sunday by the University at Buffalo, 6-1, at the Miller Tennis Center.
The Dolphins last lost a regular season match on October 9, 2021 to Niagara University, 4-3. Since resuming competition in mid-March 2021 following the COVID-19 outbreak, the Dolphins are 31-2 in regular season action, with the two losses coming to Division I competition.
Buffalo earned the point in the doubles competition by winning all three matches, the first time the Dolphins were swept since March 8, 2020, a span of 42 matches. At the first position, Simon Wibler and Finn MacNamara edged graduate student
Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and senior
Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School), 7-6 (7-5). Aleksandr Kalinin and Cheng Tang were 6-4 winners at the second spot over sophomore
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student
Manuel Righi (Bologna, Italy/IPC Manfredi - ITC Tanari/Concordia (N.Y.)/Universita di Bologna). Daniils Snaiders and Greg Hastings registered a 6-1 win over senior
Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and graduate student
Fabian Sjokvist (Helsingborg, Sweden/Campeon Frigymnasium/Lincoln Memorial) at the third position.
The Bulls recorded wins in five of the six matches in the singles competition. Kalinin claimed the win at the first position over Jarry, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Tang was victorious in similar fashion over Hatton at the second spot, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Wibler handed Piekarek his first loss of the season with back-to-back scores of 6-3 at the third position. Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense) at the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-2. MacNamara captured the win at the sixth position over Miller, 6-3, 6-1. Le Moyne earned its point at the fourth spot as Righi improved to year with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 victory over Snaiders.
Le Moyne (4-1) is back in action at another Division I foe, Morgan State University, on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
