Rutherford, N.J. – The Le Moyne College baseball team won both games of their Sunday doubleheader against Felician University to take three of the four games during the weekend non-conference series.
Jordan Goldmann (Encinitas, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy/Palomar College/Grossmont College) started game one on the mound for Le Moyne and conceded just two hits and two runs with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
Freshman right-hander
Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) pitched the final 3.0 inning to earn the win.
Felician took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth during game one. Le Moyne then used a two-out rally in the top of the ninth to take the lead back. The 'Phins were down to their final out with no runners on base when freshman
Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) started the rally with an infield base hit, then sophomore right fielder
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) ripped a double that drove in Keneston from first to tie the game at 4-4.
Fifth-year shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) drove the ball to right field which allowed Patchett to score, then
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) did the same to drive in Nevins and make it 6-4 in favor of the Dolphins.
Swinecicki recorded three strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win for the 'Phins.
During game two of the doubleheader, Le Moyne graduate right-hander
Jacob Maser (Chittenango, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)) pitched the first 5.0 innings before senior righty
Jed Boyle (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) tossed the final two. Maser allowed just four hits and two runs while tallying three strikeouts with zero walks.
Le Moyne took a 2-0 lead during game two in the top of the third inning.
Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) drew a leadoff walk, then
Jason Boule (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)) moved him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) singled to center field which moved Ries to third, but Brush was thrown out on the play.
Carroll stole second base to put runners on second and third for the 'Phins, then
Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/UMass Lowell) laced a single up the middle to knock both runners in.
Felician got a run back in the bottom of the third, but Le Moyne added two runs in the top of the fourth.
Keneston walked and advanced to second on a balk, then Patchett singled through the right side to move Keneston to third. Patchett stole second to once again put runners on second and third for Le Moyne, then Nevins singled up the middle to drive in both Keneston and Patchett, which gave the Dolphins a 4-1 advantage.
Back-to-back doubles from Dillon DiBartolomeo and Julian Uejima trimmed Felician's deficit to 4-2, then the Golden Falcons cut their two-run deficit in half during the bottom of the sixth.
Le Moyne added an insurance run in the top of the seventh via a sacrifice fly from Carroll, then Boyle recorded the final three outs in the bottom of the inning without allowing a run to end the game and give the 'Phins their third win of the four-game series.
The Le Moyne College baseball team will be back in action on Friday, March 17 when they travel to Seton Hill University for a four-game weekend non-conference series against the Griffins.
