BASEBALL CLAIMS 300TH WIN UNDER HEAD COACH SCOTT CASSIDY

Northborough, Mass. – The Le Moyne College baseball team picked up two non-conference wins over Saint Anselm College on Friday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

The second win of the afternoon marked victory no. 300 for Scott Cassidy '98 as the Dolphins' leader.

Cassidy, a member of the Le Moyne Hall of Fame as a player, joins Hall of Fame coach Dick Rockwell and Steve Owens as the third Le Moyne head baseball coach in program history to reach 300 career wins.

Le Moyne fell behind 4-0 early during game one on Friday before outscoring the Hawks 10-1 over the final seven innings to claim a 10-5 victory.

The 'Phins took a 6-0 lead in game two before cruising to a 16-4 win.

Following the doubleheader win, Le Moyne improves their 2023 record to 11-11.

"It was a great day all around for us today," said Coach Cassidy following the doubleheader win. "The bats really came to life today and we kept the foot on the gas throughout the entire doubleheader. The pitchers did their job and pitched great with the lead," Cassidy added.

"It was pretty cool when the guys were congratulating me on 300. I've had the privilege to coach some great players throughout my time here and they are the ones responsible for those wins. It also should be noted that Coach [Mike Meola Jr.] has been a part of many of those wins as he has been by my side in the dugout for the last seven plus years and has had his hand in many decisions both in recruiting and game management. I like to think of it as a team effort, not an individual accomplishment," said Cassidy on win no. 300.

"I know I speak for all former players and coaches that have been here with Coach Cassidy when I say congrats on your 300th victory as head coach here at Le Moyne! It has truly been a blast to be a small part of it over the years," said Le Moyne assistant coach Mike Meola Jr.

Game one:
Saint Anselm put up four runs in the bottom of the second, but Le Moyne responded with a two-out rally in the top of the third, as sophomore right fielder Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) drove in two runs with a double down the left field line to trim Le Moyne's deficit to 4-3

The 'Phins put runners on first and second with zero outs in the top of the fourth, then freshman outfielder Michael Rockwell (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) dropped down a sacrifice bunt, and Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 4-4.

With runners on second and third in the top of the fourth, senior shortstop Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) ripped a single through the right side to drive in Rockwell and Lukas Egenhauser (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) and make it 6-4 in favor of the Dolphins.

A Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/UMass Lowell) double into the right-center field gap drove in Nevins, then Roden scored on a throwing error later in the inning, and freshman DH Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) delivered an RBI single to left-center to complete Le Moyne's six-run inning.

Freshman Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) launched his second home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence, in the top of the 6th to extend Le Moyne's lead to 10-4.

Senior right-hander Sam DiGeorge (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) allowed just one earned run in 5.0 innings in relief to earn the win on the mound in game one, then freshman righty Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) recorded three strikeouts over the final 2.0 innings to end the game.

Game two:
The Dolphins scored six runs during the top of the second inning. Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Nevins both launched two-run home runs, then Patchett drove in two runs with a double down the left field line.

Saint Anselm got two runs back in the bottom of the second, then Roden drove in two runs for Le Moyne in the top of the third with a single to right field.

Sullivan ripped a solo home run in the top of the fourth, then drove in three more runs with a double in the right-center field gap in the top of the fifth. Sullivan finished game two with a season-high and game-high four RBIs.

Egenhauser provided an RBI double in the top of the fifth, then Keneston hammered his second home run of the doubleheader, a two-run shot in the top of the seventh, to make it 16-4 in favor of the Dolphins.

Freshman right-hander AJ Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) started game two on the mound for Le Moyne and went 3.2 innings.

Sophomore left-hander Jacob Crystal (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in relief to get credit for the win, then graduate right-hander Jacob Maser (Chittenango, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)) and sophomore righty Steven Freer (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) both pitched one inning to close out the win.

The Le Moyne College baseball team will return to action on Friday, March 31 when they host Franklin Pierce for a four-game weekend series in Syracuse.
