Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College baseball team won the first two games of their four-game conference series against NE10 Southwest Division foe Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field.
The 'Phins triumphed 13-0 in game one to claim their first conference win of 2023, then they bested the Golden Knights 7-3 during the second half of the doubleheader.
"It was a great day at Dick Rockwell Field today," said Le Moyne head coach
Scott Cassidy '98 following the doubleheader. "The weather was great and the fans and atmosphere were outstanding. The offense provided early runs with several contributors and the pitching was outstanding. Max put together another gem and kept their bats quiet in game one, and Sam and Eric were great in game two. We really put it together today with good offense, great pitching, and solid defense," Cassidy added.
Junior left-handed pitcher
Max Parker (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) allowed seven hits, zero walks and zero runs with six strikeouts in 8.0 innings during game one to earn his third victory of the season.
Freshman DH/third baseman
Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa), sophomore right fielder
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and freshman left fielder
Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) each homered during the game one win. Sullivan launched a two-run shot, his third long ball of the year, during Le Moyne's five-run inning in the bottom of the first, then Keneston hammered his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, to left field in the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the seventh, Patchett smashed his first career grand slam home run to extend Le Moyne's lead to 13-0.
Senior right-hander
Sam DiGeorge (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) started game two on the mound for Le Moyne and allowed just two hits, one earned run, two walks and five strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work. Freshman righty
Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) held the Golden Knights to one hit, one walk and zero runs with four strikeouts during the final 2.0 innings to close out the win.
Sullivan broke the tie for Le Moyne in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI double to right-center field that drove in Patchett. During the same inning, senior shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) smashed a three-run home run over the right-center field fence to make it 4-0 in favor of the Dolphins.
The 'Phins extended their lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the third after junior catcher
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) drove in two runs with a base hit to right field.
Saint Rose got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with a two-run home run from senior first baseman Jack McDonald, which was Saint Rose's first hit against DiGeorge.
The Golden Knights trimmed their deficit to 7-3 following an RBI single from sophomore third baseman James Ward in the top of the sixth, but Swiencicki recorded a strikeout and a groundout to end the inning and strand two runners on base.
Swiencicki allowed a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh, then struck out the next three batters to end the inning and secure the doubleheader sweep for the 'Phins.
