MENEILLY NETS 200TH GOAL AS SIXTH-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFEATS SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE, 20-9

Syracuse, N.Y. – Graduate student attacker Jessica Meneilly (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied the 200th goal of her career as part of a six-goal performance to lead the sixth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 20-9 victory over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

"After a slow start to the day, we really responded in the second quarter and gained the momentum needed to secure a win," said head coach Liz Beville. "Always great to see 10 players with at least one point!"

Southern Connecticut State opened the game's scoring just 41 seconds into the contest as Alexandra Ruel tallied her 22nd goal of the year off a pass from Bayleigh Takacs.

Le Moyne answered back 50 seconds later as Meneilly finished off a feed from graduate student attacker Sara Goodwin (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Virginia Tech).

Takacs gave the lead back to the Owls with 10:38 remaining with her 37th goal of the year.

The Dolphins answered back with the next three goals over a span of 101 seconds. Sophomore attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) started the run at the 8:36 mark off a dish from Goodwin, who scored in transition 78 seconds later. Meneilly followed 23 seconds later with her 55th goal of the campaign after collecting a pass from graduate student midfielder Katelyn Karleski (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.). With the goal, Meneilly passed Brenna Bauer '13 for ninth on the program's career points list with her 208th.

The Owls closed within one for the final time with 4:44 remaining as Takacs fired in her 38th goal of the year.

Le Moyne tallied the final two goals of the quarter. Meneilly completed her hat trick with 3:18 remaining in transition. Senior attacker Gemma Addonizio (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) netted her 23rd goal of the campaign with 1:31 left in the quarter.

The Dolphins rattled off the first five goals of the second quarter. Addonizio ignited the run at the 12:57 following a pass from Karleski. Goodwin found the back of the net 31 seconds later off a pass from Addonizio, who had caught an errant shot behind the net. Junior midfielder Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) made it 9-3 34 seconds later with a drive through the defense. Just under four minutes later, Meneilly finished off a pass from junior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) at the 7:57 mark. Karleski capped the streak with 7:04 left by converting a free-position shot.

The Owls snapped the run at the 5:50 mark as Ruel finished off a pass from Hannah Holmes in transition.

Le Moyne pushed its lead to nine for the first time with a pair of goals in a span of 10 seconds. Only 25 seconds after Ruel scored, Goodwin answered with her 49th goal of the year. Karleski won the ensuing draw control and sent a pass to Goodwin, who returned the ball to Karleski for her 20th goal of the campaign with 5:15 left in the half.

Ruel completed Southern Connecticut State's scoring in the half with 4:30 remaining.

Meneilly became the second player in the program's history to record 200 career goals with 34 seconds left in the half by finishing off a feed from Addonizio for her fifth goal of the game. She has scored at least five goals in a game in eight of the team's 16 contests, including four of the last five games.

Le Moyne scored all four of the goals scored in the third quarter. Meneilly gave the Dolphins their first double-digit lead of the game 36 seconds into the third quarter off another pass from Addonizio. Goodwin netted her 50th goal of the year at the 8:00 mark by converting a free-position shot. Just over two minutes later, Geer converted a free-position shot of her own for her 12th tally of the season. Sophomore attacker Reagan McQuade (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) completed the scoring in the quarter with 2:43 left off a free-position shot.

Southern Connecticut State scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter to cut its deficit back to single digits. Savannah Feinberg started the run at the 13:42 mark with a free-position goal. Kirsten McIntire tallied her 30th goal of the season with 12:03 remaining off a pass from Takacs, who caused a turnover on a clear attempt. Takacs followed with her 39th goal of the year just over three minutes later. Ruel then scored two minutes later for her 25th marker of the season to make it 18-9.

Le Moyne scored the final two goals of the contest. McQuade scored at the 5:35 mark from in front of the net off a dish from the right from freshman attacker Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), who also picked up the assist three minutes later as senior attacker Kelly Thomas (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) posted her fifth goal of the year.

Senior goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) registered seven saves (against five goals) over the first three quarters to earn the victory between the pipes. Caelan Connors made 10 saves in the loss for the Owls.

Le Moyne (14-2, 10-1 NE10) closes out the regular season on Saturday against Southern New Hampshire University at 11:00 a.m. The Dolphin Athletic Association will honor the five members of the senior class prior to the game with festivities getting underway at 10:48.
