FOURTH-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE FALLS TO 12TH-RANKED ADELPHI IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Pleasantville, N.Y. – Izzy Grant scored six goals to lead 12th-ranked and third-seeded Adelphi University to a 16-12 victory over the fourth-ranked and second-seeded Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team in the NCAA Championships East Region semifinals on Friday afternoon at Pace Stadium.

The Dolphins, who had their 13-game win streak snapped, finish the season with an 18-3 record.

Adelphi, which ended Le Moyne's postseason run for the fourth straight year and for the ninth time in Le Moyne's 12 years at Division II, scored the game's first three goals over the opening three minutes. Rita Sefransky posted the first goal at the 13:59 mark off a pass from Kelly-Ann McGrath. Grant followed 50 seconds later with her 31st goal of the season after taking a pass from Syracuse-transfer Danielle Marino. Just over one minute later, McGrath found the back of the net.

Le Moyne got on the scoreboard at the 8:47 mark as graduate student midfielder Katelyn Karleski (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) tallied her 26th goal of the season.

The Panthers answered back with the final three goals of the quarter to take a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. Marino started the spurt at the 6:27 mark with an unassisted goal. Grant followed at the 4:40 mark off another feed from Marino. Fiona Rafferty capped the quarter's scoring with two seconds left after taking a pass from Marino.

Following almost seven and one-half minutes of scoreless play to start the second quarter, the Dolphins scored twice in a span of one minute. Graduate student midfielder Adrianna Nojaim () registered her 16th goal of the season with 7:39 left and then junior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) finished off a pass from junior midfielder Rhonee Shea Pal (Canastota, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) with 6:47 to go.

The teams split the final two goals of the half. Tamia Lawson scored her 14th goal of the year with 4:38 left off a pass from Sefransky. Graduate student attacker Jessica Meneilly (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded her 216th career goal with four seconds remaining off a pass from graduate student attacker Sara Goodwin (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Virginia Tech) to get the Dolphins within 7-4 at the intermission.

Adelphi netted the first two goals of the third quarter. McGrath scored her 32nd goal of the season just 51 seconds into the second half. Alexandria Leggio followed at the 11:55 mark off a feed from Kerrin Heuser.

Le Moyne countered with three goals in a stretch of 67 seconds to close within two goals. Hutchings started the streak at the 10:34 mark with her 33rd goal of the season after collecting a pass from Goodwin. Junior midfielder Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) followed 50 seconds later by converting a free-position shot. Just 17 seconds later, senior attacker Gemma Addonizio (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) posted her 35th goal of the season.

The Panthers responded with the final three goals of the third quarter and the first of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Heuser started the run at the 7:39 mark by scoring in an extra-player situation off a pass from Leggio. Grant, who didn't score and only took four combined shots in Le Moyne's two wins over the Panthers this season, pushed her team's lead to 11-7 with 5:18 left by converting a free-position shot. She scored again with 2:59 remaining off a feed from Heuser. Grant scored 1:36 into the fourth off a pass from McGrath.

The Dolphins scored five of the next seven goals to narrow their deficit to three. Goodwin picked up her 67th goal of the season with 12:38 left and then sophomore attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) converted a free-position shot 61 seconds later. After McGrath answered 25 seconds later, Nojaim responded 46 seconds later with her 79th goal of her career. Only 24 seconds later, the Panthers pushed their lead back to give as Sefransky scored her ninth goal of the season. In Le Moyne's two-goal spurt, Geer netted her 14th goal of the year off a pass from Goodwin, who then scored her 68th goal of the season with 6:30 remaining for Le Moyne's final goal.

Grant finished off the game's scoring with 4:56 remaining off a pass from Marino.
