Binghamton, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened its Spring season with a 4-2 setback at Binghamton University in Northeast Conference action on Saturday evening at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.
The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. At the second position, graduate students
Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) and
Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Northwood) recorded a 6-3 victory over Kyle Weekes and Filipe Costa. The Bearcats evened doubles at one apiece as Ronin Lotlikar and Zubin Omar were 7-5 winners at the third spot over graduate students
Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and
Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense). Junior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student
Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb) clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-4) win at the first position over William Morais Binnie and James McPherson.
The Bearcats captured the match by winning four of the six singles matches. They evened the match at one apiece as McPherson recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win at the sixth spot over junior
Xavier Branagan (Wollstonecraft, Australia/St. Aloysius' College). Costa put his team in front with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the fourth position over Grundstroem. Morais Binnie followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the second spot over Stojanovic. Nunez got the Dolphins on the scoreboard in singles play by downing Weekes, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, at the third position. Lotlikar clinched the match for the Bearcats by defeating Hatton at the first spot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Piekarek won the point at the fifth position over Omar after recording an 11-9 win in the third set tiebreaker after they split the first two sets.
Le Moyne (2-1) is back in action on Sunday at Cornell University at 5:00 p.m.
