LE MOYNE STUDENT-ATHLETES EXCEL IN CLASSROOM DURING FIRST SEMESTER AT DIVISION I

Syracuse, N.Y. – This past Fall semester brought great changes on the playing fields, courts, pools and tracks for Le Moyne College student-athletes as the Dolphins began their first season of competition at the Division I level.

But one thing remained constant away from those competitive venues for Le Moyne student-athletes during the Fall semester and that was the level of excellence they achieved in the classroom.

In fact, the 2023 Fall academic semester will stand as one of the most successful for Dolphin student-athletes despite the transition to Division I.

Not only does the recently completed fall semester mark the 41st consecutive semester that Le Moyne student-athletes combined to earn a term grade-point average of at least 3.0, their aggregate 3.343 GPA ranks as the third-best Fall academic showing by Le Moyne student-athletes in the last six years and the fifth-best showing in the last 12 semesters overall.

For only the second time in the department's history, all 21 intercollegiate Athletics teams posted term GPAs of at least 3.0, and for the second straight semester, all 21 programs will carry cumulative team GPAs of at least 3.0 into a new academic period.

"I am incredibly proud of the performance of our student-athletes academically, as well as athletically, this past semester," said Asst. Vice President of Athletics & Recreation Bob Beretta. "Not only have our student-athletes risen to the challenge of competing at the Division I level, they have not compromised their academic pursuits in any way.

"It is quite a testament to the culture of this department that all 21 of our intercollegiate athletic teams recorded term grade-point averages above 3.0 and all 21 programs own cumulative grade-point averages of at least 3.0 for the second consecutive semester.

In all, 39 Le Moyne student-athletes registered a 4.0 GPA.

Five teams recorded GPAs of 3.5 or better, led by women's basketball at 3.753. The others are: volleyball (3.632), men's soccer (3.587), men's tennis (3.564) and women's lacrosse (3.513).

Three other teams narrowly missed the 3.5 term GPA mark, registering term GPAs of at least 3.4 (softball, women's soccer and women's swimming & diving).

Additionally, three teams sport cumulative GPAs above 3.5 (men's tennis, women's basketball and volleyball), and three others stand above 3.4 (men's soccer, women's lacrosse, women's swimming & diving).
