MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT BUCKNELL, 6-1

South Williamsport, Pa. – Bucknell University registered a 6-1 win over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team on Sunday at the Central PA Tennis Center.
 
The Bison swept the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Brendan McDonald and Amar Tahirovic recorded a 6-4 win at the first position over graduate students Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Filborna Gymnasium/Northwood) and Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist). Oscar Bain and Adam Stavrakas also recorded a 6-4 win at the second spot over junior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb). Tim Zelikovsky and Liam Kilmer completed the sweep with a 6-1 win over graduate students Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense) at the third position.
 
Bucknell earned the victory by claiming five of the six matches in the singles competition. Le Moyne evened the match at one point apiece as Hatton rallied from an early deficit in the first set for a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the top spot over Tahirovic. Bain put the Bison in front for good with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Nunez at the third position. Stavrakas followed with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory at the second spot over Grundstroem. McDonald downed Stojanovic at the fourth position, 6-4, 7-6. Kilmer rallied to defeat Piekarek at the fifth spot, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Zelikovsky closed out the win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the sixth position over Beires.

Le Moyne (6-6) is back in action on Saturday at SPORTIME Syosset in Syosset, N.Y. against NEC foe LIU.
