South Williamsport, Pa. – Bucknell University recorded a 6-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Sunday at the Central PA Tennis Center.
The Bison opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition for a 1-0 lead. At the first position, Whitney King and Abby Platt were 6-1 winners over freshman
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) and sophomore
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences). Madi Sebulsky and Caroline Marcus clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the third spot over sophomores
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey). Tyne Miller and Anna Lajos completed the sweep by edging junior
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and senior
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) at the second position, 7-6 (7-5).
Bucknell won the first five match of the singles competition to finish. King put her team in front 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top spot over Casares. Platt followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Alvarez at the third position. Lajos clinched the point with back-to-back scores of 6-3 against Raiss at the second spot. Tori Allen earned the point at the sixth position over Pepper, 6-2, 6-4. Miller rallied to defeat Barona at the fourth spot, 4-6, 6-4, 10-1. Le Moyne earned its point at the fifth position as Simeonova edged Jaycie Mair, 7-6 (1-0), 1-6, 11-9.
Le Moyne (4-5) is back in action on Sunday at Lafayette at 4:30 p.m..
