Norfolk, V.A. – The Le Moyne College softball team continued their travels to Delaware State University for a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Dolphins swept the hornets with a 6-3 win followed by a 3-1 win to close out the day.
First Game:
Junior right fielder
Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Charles W. Baker) singled to shortstop First baseman
Mckenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) then singled to center field bringing Dybacz to second.
Dybacz advanced to third off an out. Redshirt junior
Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse/ Onondaga C.C.) singled to shortstop bringing in Dybacz making it 1-0. Delaware State's Kayla Lester reached on an error, then Uxua Modrego Lopez singled into right field helping Lester advance to second. Annalise Sanatana reached on a fielder's choice while Modrego Lopez advanced to second and Lester got out at third. Modrego Lopez and Santana were left on base.
It wasn't until the top of the fifth where
freshman left-fielder
Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) hit a double to left. Nesci advanced to third off a ground out followed by Dybacz hitting a homerun sending her and Nesci home bringing the score to 3-0. The Hornets struggled getting any runs on the board, but the Dolphins added some more in the top of the sixth. Graduate student catcher
Brandi Feeny (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Saint Peter's) singled to right followed by another single hit by ending Feeney to second. Sophomore right fielder
Emilee Gallagher (New Windsor, N.Y. / Newburgh Free Academy) pinch ran for Feeney at second. Sophomore catcher
Alexandra Chesney (Malverne, N.Y. / Sacred Heart) pinch hit for Graduate center-fielder
Isabelle Boudreau (Memramcook, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin/Pace) and hit a double sending both Nesci and Gallagher home. Boudreau came back into the game to run at second and scored a run from a single from Dybacz making the score 6-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Hornets put three runs on the board off a double from Hailey Ramberg which brought Dallas Speicher-Ramirez, Emma Crowe, and Santana home. The game was ended with a score of 6-3, Le Moyne.
Second Game:
The Hornets registered a run during the first inning, starting off by Lester being walked and Modrego Lopez singling to right which brought Lester to second. Crowe grounded out to second while Modrego Lopez advanced to third and Lester scored a run. The Dolphins responded by Benderski being walked and graduate left fielder
Jillian Dunn (Fiskdale, Mass. / Tantasqua Regional) pinch ran for her. Larobardiere popped up to first while Dunn advanced to second. Dunn then stole third and then scored off of a ground out tying the game with one run each.
It wasn't until the top of the sixth where more runs were recorded. Nesci singled to center and junior catcher
Elaina Kassap (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach) helped Nesci advance to second off of a sacrifice bunt. Boudreau singled to the pitcher while Nesci then advanced to third. Dybacz singled to shortstop bringing Nesci home, but Boudreau was caught at second. Dybacz then stole second and Bergdoll singled to shortstop bringing Dybacz home making it 3-1 which would end up being the final score.
The Dolphin's will finish off their Spring Break trip with another doubleheader at Lafayette College tomorrow Wednesday, March 13
th with start times at 12pm and 2pm at Lafayette Softball Field – Easton, Pa.
