WOMEN’S LACROSSE REGISTERS SECOND STRAIGHT OVERTIME VICTORY, 12-11, OVER STONEHILL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) tallied her fifth goal of the game 1:01 into overtime to give the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team a 12-11 victory over Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon in Northeast Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

"Today was a great test for our program in facing a former NE10 foe," said head coach Liz Beville. "While we have things to work on, we have continued to make positive progress in our play each week. It's a great day to be a 'Phin!"

Le Moyne, which improves to 12-4 all-time against the Skyhawks, including 8-0 at Ted Grant Field, jumped out to a 2-0 lead just over four minutes into the game. Off a free-position shot, sophomore attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) netted fifth goal of the season with 12:08 left in the opening quarter. Just over one minute later, junior attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) posted her sixth goal of the season.

Stonehill got on the scoreboard at the 8:41 mark as Lilly Leach converted a free-position shot for her 12th goal of the season.

Hutchings followed with her eighth goal of the campaign just over two minutes later to push her team's lead back to two.

The Skyhawks, who defeated the Dolphins for the 2022 Northeast-10 Conference Championship, scored twice within 44 seconds to even the score at three apiece. Grace Murphy netted her 22nd goal of the year with 4:31 left and Emily LaPia followed with her 10th of the season with 3:47 remaining.

The Dolphins countered with back-to-back goals to take a 5-3 lead after one quarter. Senior attacker Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) finished off a feed from senior midfielder Rhonee Shea Pal (Canastota, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) in an extra-player situation for her fourth goal of the campaign with 1:40 left. Pal fired in a free-position shot with 6.5 seconds left for her 10th tally of the season.

Hutchings pushed the Le Moyne lead to a game-high three goals with 12:36 left in the second quarter after collecting a pass from Geer.

The Skyhawks recorded the final two goals of the quarter to get within a goal. Following a Stonehill timeout, LaPia registered her 11th goal of the year with 6:00 to go. Molly Mae Hughes completed the half's scoring with 3:43 left with her 20th goal of the season.

Neither team was able to put a shot on goal the remainder of the half.

After almost five minutes of scoreless play to start the third quarter, Hughes evened the score at six with her 21st marker of the year.

Le Moyne regained the lead with 8:50 remaining, snapping a scoring drought of 18:46, as Geer finished off a pass from Hutchings.

Hughes, who was held scoreless in the NE10 Championship game, but had five assists in Stonehill's regular season win over the Dolphins, once again tied the score with 3:21 left after taking a feed from Natalie Coutu.

The Dolphins took a two-goal lead again with a pair of tallies in the final 68 seconds. Geer netted her third goal of game with 1:08 left off a dish from Pal. Hutchings then recorded her third goal of the day with 23 seconds to go.

Stonehill scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to tie the score at nine. Following a Le Moyne yellow card, Hughes found the back of the net off a pass from Coutu with 14:07 remaining. After three empty possessions by each team, Leach, who scored four goals in each 2022 game, recorded her 13th goal of the season with 7:02 left off a feed from Hughes.

Le Moyne took the lead back with 5:42 left as Hutchings scored in an extra-player opportunity.

The Skyhawks answered back only 48 seconds later as Sofia D'Agostino scored her eighth goal of the year after taking a pass from Hughes.

Following a save by fifth-year goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson), Pal put the Dolphins back in front with only nine seconds left on the possession clock and 55 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Stonehill won the ensuing draw control and earned a free-position shot with 31 seconds left. D'Agostino rifled the shot into the bottom of the net to tie the score for the sixth time.

The Skyhawks won the next draw control and were able to get off a weak shot, which Crandall easily stopped.

Le Moyne won the opening draw of overtime and worked the ball around until Hutchings had it on the right side of the field. She cut towards the middle of the critical scoring area and fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Dolphins their second straight overtime victory.

Le Moyne (3-4, 2-0 NEC), which has played back-to-back overtime games and won them both for the first time in the program's history, plays its first NEC road game of the season next Saturday at Merrimack College at 3:00 p.m. The Dolphins are now 14-6 in overtime games in the program's history. 2024 is the sixth year in which the program has played multiple overtime games (also 2022, 2019, 2009, 2005, 2004) and just the second year (also 2004, five games apart) to win both.
