SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER AT BINGHAMTON

Vestal, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team (8-17, 2-4 NEC) lost both of their Tuesday afternoon non-conference doubleheader at Binghamton University (16-10, 1-2 AEC) at the Bearcats Softball Complex – Vestal, NY.
 
In game one, The Bearcats prevailed 2-0 after going three and a half innings with no runs scored. In game two, Binghamton scored seven runs to pull ahead in the bottom of the first to give them the lead they would keep for the rest of the game ending it at five innings with a 13-3 score. 
 
First Game:
Brianna Roberts and Graduate pitcher Laura Bennet (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) went head-to-head the first four innings keeping the game at no runs for both teams.
 
At the bottom of the fourth, Bella Farina homered to left field to add a run to the board (0-1). During the next at bat, Roberts got in scoring position off a triple to right center. Elisa Allen then brought Roberts home off a sacrifice fly (0-2).
 
The Dolphins had junior right fielder Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Charles W. Baker) get on base off by getting hit by a pitch to start off the sixth inning. Dybacz would then be left on base following three back-to-back outs. The Bearcats had no one get on base, and no hits in the sixth.
 
At the top of the seventh with one out, first baseman Mckenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro, Mass. / Attleboro) singled to center landing her on first. During the next at bat, Bergdoll was tagged out at second off a double play to end the game at 0-2. 
 
 
Second Game:
Le Moyne started the game off with a home run from Dybacz over right center, which was her fifth of the season (1-0). With one out in the books, Bergdoll then doubled to right center. Redshirt junior Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse/ Onondaga C.C.) put Bergdoll in scoring position after singling to left field. Both players were then left on base following the last out of the top of the first.
 
The Bearcats gained a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the first. Brianna Santos started off by hitting a single into left field to get her on first. Santos then moved to second off a single from Lindsey Walter. Farina drove home Santos by advancing to second off a single and moved Walter to scoring position (1-1). Two more runs were scored by Walter and Farina off a single from Roberts (3-1).

The Bearcats weren't done as Allison L'Amoreaux drew a walk and Roberts moved to second. Allen then homered bringing home L'Amoreaux and Roberts (6-1). Two outs were on the board as Gabby Guerrero was hit by a pitch then Santos doubled to right center and Guerrero scored (7-1).
 
In the top of the second, junior catcher Elaina Kassap (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach) drew a walk to put her on first. Redshirt junior Brooke Nicolaos (Liverpool, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse) reached first off an error by third base which Kassap would advance to second on. Both were left on base to enter the bottom of the second.
 
Farina landed on second off a double down the left field line, then advanced to third off a wild pitch. With one out, L'Amoreaux doubled to right center bringing home Farina (8-1). Allen then was hit by a pitch landing her on first. L'Amoreaux got herself in scoring position and Allen got to second off a wild pitch. Shelby Cervalho then doubled to center field bringing home Allen, and L'Amoreaux which would be the last two runs of the inning (10-1).
 
In the third, Bergdoll singled to center and sophomore designated player Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) reached off a fielders choice landing her on first, but Bergdoll was tagged out at second. Freshman outfielder Kara Bacon (Warrensburg, N.Y. / Warrensburg) entered the game to pinch run for Benderski at first. Larobardiere then singled to the pitcher and Bacon got in scoring position at third. Sophomore right fielder Emilee Gallagher (New Windsor, N.Y. / Newburgh Free Academy) came in to pinch run for Larobardiere but would be left on base with Bacon.
 
The Bearcats added two more runs in the bottom of the third by Santos drawing a walk. Farina then doubled to right bringing home Santos (11-1). L'Amoreaux hit another single to first base while Farina advanced to third. Farina scored off a single from Allen, but this would be the last run of the inning (12-1).
 
Sophomore catcher Alexandra Chesney (Malverne, N.Y. / Sacred Heart) then entered the game for Kassap and singled to second base. Sophomore shortstop Avery Linn (Bethpage, N.Y. / Plainedge) dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move Chesney to second. Chesney then advanced to third off a wild pitch and scored during Dybacz's at bat as she grounded out to second (2-12).
 
Binghamton added their last run in the bottom of the fourth. Alex Musial started off the inning by drawing a walk and Maddy Dodig came in to pinch run for her at second. Rebecca Minnichbach then grounded out to second while Dodig advanced to second. Sarah Rende drew another walk and Dodig put herself in scoring position off a wild pitch. Jill Fittry then drew a third walk while Rende advanced to second. Emma Lawson entered to pinch hit for Farina and grounded out to shortstop while driving home Dodig for the Bearcats last run of the game (13-2).
 
The Dolphins weren't done as Bergdoll smashed the ball bringing home another home run at the top of the fifth (3-13). Three back-to-back outs were made to end the game during at fifth inning.
 
The Dolphin's will host a three-game home series starting on Friday, March 29th at 12pm and 2pm against Central Connecticut State University at the Le Moyne College Softball Complex.
