LIU DOWNS WOMEN’S LACROSSE, 16-5, IN BATTLE FOR FIRST PLACE

Brookville, N.Y. – Olivia Fantigrossi scored six goals to lead LIU to a 16-5 victory over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Saturday in Northeast Conference action at Bethpage FCU Stadium.

"LIUs top players showed up to play today," said head coach Liz Beville. "The Sharks played with a lot more composure and confidence than we did. We will make adjustments and look to bounce back from this loss next week against SFU."

The Sharks scored the first four goals of the game, including the first three in a span 1:55. Julia Trainor started the scoring by converting a free-position shot with 11:58 left for her 20th goal of the season. Following a Le Moyne green card, Fantigrossi made a free-position shot in the extra-player situation with 11:00 to go. Trainer scored off another free-position shot with 10:03 remaining in the quarter to force a Le Moyne timeout. After five minutes of scoreless play, Fantigrossi scored in an extra-player situation with 5:00 left after another Le Moyne green card.

Le Moyne got on the scoreboard with 2:13 left as sophomore attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) netted her ninth goal of the season.

LIU extended its lead to six with the first three goals of the second quarter. Just 44 seconds into the period, Fantigrossi tallied her 24th goal of the season. She scored again 2:46 later off a free-position shot. Trainor made it 7-1 with 6:26 until halftime.

The Dolphins scored the final two goals of the half. Freshman midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) recorded her fifth goal of the season with 3:59 left. After picking up a loose ball in front of the net, junior attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) fired in her 10th marker of the year during an extra-player situation with 1:15 remaining.

The Sharks rattled off the first four goals of the third quarter. Fantigrossi scored at the 14:04 mark off a feed from Lindsey Lucia. She scored again with 10:29 left off a dish from Alexa Nuzzi. Erin Harkins posted her 16th goal of the season with 9:33 to go after taking a pass from Trainor. Lucia capped the spurt with her seventh goal of the season with 4:56 remaining.

Sampo tallied her second goal of the day during an extra-player situation with 3:01 left in the quarter.

LIU pushed its lead to nine for the first time with the first two goals of the fourth quarter. Trainor found the back of the net on a free-position shot in an extra-player situation with 13:20 remaining. Just over two minutes later, Harkins posted her second goal of the half off a pass from Rachel Weber.

Senior midfielder Rhonee Shea Pal (Canastota, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) completed Le Moyne's scoring with her 13th goal of the year with 9:40 left.

The Sharks scored the final three goals of the game to deliver the final score. Harkins made it 14-5 with an extra-player tally with 7:15 left. She scored again with 1:30 remaining on a free-position shot. Brianna Tribble closed out the scoring with an extra-player goal on a free-position shot with five seconds left.
