BUCKNELL DEFEATS BASEBALL ON TUESDAY IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Lewisburg, Pa. – The Le Moyne baseball team recorded an 11-2 loss at Bucknell University (6-5) on Tuesday in the team's first midweek non-conference game of the season.

Le Moyne (3-8) will make its Northeast Conference debut this weekend at LIU. The Dolphins and the Sharks will play single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"Not the result we wanted but it was great to get a few arms in there that needed the work," said Le Moyne head coach Scott Cassidy '98. "(Billy) Canale and (Eric) Swiencicki saw some action and I'm excited to have them both back in the mix.

"(Nick) Nevins has been outstanding," Cassidy continued. "An absolute stud up to this point. He has put some professional at bats together and has been carrying us up to this point."

Shortstop Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), who was named NEC Player of the Week after going 7-11 at the plate during Le Moyne's three-game series at Saint Louis last weekend, continued to swing a hot bat on Tuesday, going 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk against the Bison. Nevins doubled in the first inning, then he launched his second home run of the season, a solo shot to right field, in the top of the fourth inning to give the Dolphins their first run of the contest.

Freshman Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder), who got the start in right field, recorded his first career RBI with a base hit through the right side in the sixth inning that drove in Nevins.

Graduate student Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/UMass Lowell) started on the mound for the 'Phins and completed 4.0 innings of work with three strikeouts and six runs allowed.

Freshman right-hander Billy Canale (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) entered the game to begin the bottom of the fifth and limited the Bison to one hit, zero runs and zero walks with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched during his second collegiate appearance.

Right-hander Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute), who made a team-high 17 appearances on the mound for the Dolphins during his rookie season in 2023, made his first appearance this season against the Bison, replacing Canale to pitch the bottom of the seventh inning.

Right-hander Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) recorded three strikeouts in the bottom of the eighth for Le Moyne.

Bucknell third baseman Sean Keys went 4-5 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI via a home run in the eighth inning, while center fielder Grant Voytovich recorded a double and a home run to finish the contest with a game-high four runs batted in.

Left fielder Jacob Corson tallied three hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in for the Bison.

Bucknell starting pitcher Mikey Myro improved his record to 2-0 this season after limiting the Dolphins to three hits, one walk and one run with one strikeout in 5.0 innings.

Graeme Carroll, Jonathan Adelmann, and Dante Pavone combined to record 3.1 scoreless innings to close out the win for Bucknell.

Game one of Le Moyne's three game conference series at LIU is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
