CANISIUS PULLS AWAY IN FOURTH QUARTER FOR 10-7 WIN OVER WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Buffalo, N.Y. – Caroline Netti scored five goals to lead Canisius University to a 10-7 win over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

"While the final outcome wasn't in our favor today, we continue to see growth in our team and players," said head coach Liz Beville. "We look forward to starting conference play this weekend back on Ted Grant Field."

Le Moyne opened the game's scoring with the first three goals over the initial 6:25. Senior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) got the Dolphins on the board with 10:53 remaining with her seventh goal of the season. Just over 90 seconds later, senior midfielder Rhonee Shea Pal (Chittenango) scored her seventh goal of the campaign. Junior attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) followed with 8:35 to go with the final goal of the quarter as the Dolphins were only able to get off one more shot.

Canisius answered with three straight goals in the first quarter of the second quarter. Meg Hiltz got her team on the scoreboard with 12:38 left, snapping a drought of 17:33. Just under three and one-half minutes later, Hailey Rooney pulled the Golden Griffins within a goal. Netti scored her first goal of the game with 7:58 left after taking a pass from Megan Previdi.

Le Moyne regained the lead with 6:09 remaining as senior midfielder Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) finished off a feed from Hutchings.

Canisius took its first lead of the game with 4:34 left after scoring twice in 20 seconds. Netti tied the score at nine with 4:54 left, while Maddie Fitzgerald put the Golden Griffs in front after taking a feed from Maddie Mazur.

Detor evened the score at five with 1:32 remaining after collecting a pass from Hutchings in an extra-player opportunity.

Netti put Canisius back in front just 35 seconds into the third quarter off a feed from Hiltz.

Le Moyne answered with consecutive goals to take the lead back for the final time. Detor tied the score at six with 13:09 remaining in the stanza. Freshman midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) followed at the 11:26 mark with her first career goal after receiving a pass from Hutchings, who received credit for her third assist of the game, which tied her career high.

Netti tied the score for the final time with only 47 seconds left off a dish from Previdi.

Canisius scored the only three goals of the fourth quarter to secure the win. Netti converted a free-position shot just 20 seconds into the period for an 8-7 lead. Previdi followed 1:04 later for her team's first multi-goal lead of the afternoon. Hiltz completed the scoring with 8:21 left off a pass from Netti.

Fifth-year goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) registered 10 saves, including three in each of the first and fourth quarters, in the setback. Jody Chu made six saves, including four in the fourth quarter, in earning the victory.
