WOMEN’S LACROSSE CONCLUDES HOME SCHEDULE WITH 10-7 VICTORY OVER WAGNER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) broke a tie with 9:37 remaining as the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team registered a 10-7 victory over Wagner College in Northeast Conference on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

"What a great game!" said head coach Liz Beville. "I thought we did a great job battling on the draw circle and for ground balls all over the field. Our attacking unit shot the ball well today and Paige had a big day in cage. I'm really excited that we were able to pull out a win for our senior class on senior day."

With the victory, the Dolphins clinch at least a top-four seed in the upcoming NEC tournament.

After almost five minutes of scoreless play to start the game, senior attacker Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) converted a free-position shot for her 14th goal of the season.

Ella Marino answered back just over two minutes later with a free-position goal of her own.

The Dolphins countered with the next two goals. Hutchings tallied her first goal of the day with 7:23 remaining. Just 39 seconds later, Geer finished off a pass from sophomore attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).

The Seahawks scored the final two goals of the quarter to knot the score at three. Nia Scott scored her ninth goal of the season with 5:26 left after taking a pass from Sophia Colver. Following a green card on the Dolphins, Marino converted another free-position shot in the extra-player situation with 32 seconds left.

Just under three minutes into the second quarter, the Dolphins regained the lead as junior attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) scored on a free-position shot.

After over six minutes of scoreless action, Kelsey Scheidel recorded her 28th goal of the season to even the score at four apiece.

Junior attacker Reagan McQuade (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) gave the lead back to her team with 4:12 left after receiving a pass from Geer in an extra-player situation following a Wagner yellow card.

Neither team got off a shot over the last four minutes as the Dolphins took a 5-4 lead into halftime.

Le Moyne scored twice in the first four minutes of the third quarter to extend its lead to three. Senior midfielder Rhonee Shea Pal (Canastota, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) made it a two-goal game with 13:46 left in the period with her 22nd goal of the season. Hutchings followed at the 11:24 mark with her 25th goal of the season.

As they did in the first quarter, the Seahawks scored the final two goals of the third quarter. Marino tallied her third free-position goal of the game with 10:24 left for her 15th marker of the season. Scott then put in her 10th goal of the year with 8:41 remaining.

Each team had four empty possessions the remainder of the quarter, including one by the Dolphins where they had a 7-on-5 advantage following two Wagner green cards.

Scott tied the score for the final time with her third goal of the day with 12:46 left in the fourth quarter.

Le Moyne snapped a scoring drought of 16:47 to score three times in a span of 2:28. Hutchings ended the span with 9:37 left with her third tally of the contest. Just 98 seconds later, Geer fired in her third goal of the afternoon to put the Dolphins up by two. Sophomore midfielder Jane Austenfeld (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) then spun around a defender and blasted a shot inside the far left post for her fourth goal of the year with 7:09 to play, which forced a Wagner timeout.

The Seahawks were only able to put one shot on goal the remainder of the game, but it was saved.

Fifth year goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) registered 10 saves to earn the win between the pipes. With her third save of the game, she became the fourth netminder in the program's history to record 500 career saves. Grace DeCarolis, who entered the game after halftime, took the loss in the cage for the Seahawks.

Senior defender Lilly Locastro (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) had at least four caused turnovers and four ground balls for the third time in four games with five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Her 40 caused turnovers this season are tied for the third-most in a season by a Dolphin in the program's history and are the most since Olivia McEntee '20 also had 40 in 2019. She now has 128 career ground balls, which is tied for the ninth-most by a Dolphin since the turn of the century.

Le Moyne (8-6, 7-2 NEC) is on the road on Wednesday at the University of Vermont at 4:00 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.
