Fairfield, Conn. – The Le Moyne College softball team (15-33, 6-12 NEC) competed in their last game of their series on Sunday against Sacred Heart University (25-26, 16-8 NEC). The Dolphins prevailed, taking home the win 5-2 over the Pioneers.
"Sacred Heart is a very good softball team" said head coach
Tracey Roman. "Getting out of that series with a win is a big deal and another step forward for our program. I can't emphasize enough how proud I am of this team of twenty four student-athletes. Their unwavering spirit and perseverance continues to surprise our opponents. Laura is absolutely dealing right now. Our hitters continue to swing the bat ferociously but we've struggled to find holes the past few games. Sometimes that happens. We found the holes today. We're looking forward to being home the next couple days."
Sacred Heart started off the bottom of the first with an inside the park homerun from Victoria LoPinto (1-0).
Le Moyne responded in the top of the fourth with sophomore designated player

Alayna Bush (Adams, N.Y. / South Jefferson) entered the game to pinch run for Benderski at first.
Freshman left-fielder
Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) then reached on a fielders choice while Bush hurried to second but was tagged out with a throw from the third baseman to the second basemen. Graduate student catcher
Brandi Feeney (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Saint Peter's) singled to left center as Nesci advanced to second

Alexandra Chesney (Malverne, N.Y. / Sacred Heart) then entered the game to pinch hit for freshman second baseman
Shannon Gavigan (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford). Chesney slammed the ball to center field as she would load the bases for the Dolphins. Gavigan re-entered to pinch run for Chesney at first. Freshman second baseman
Gabriella Zarcone (Smithtown,, N.Y. / Smithtown East) stepped up to the plate as she was hit by a pitch bringing home Nesci (1-1).
Junior right fielder
Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Charles W. Baker) continued bringing in the runs as she singled to center field and Feeney crossed homeplate (2-1). Junior shortstop
Dominique Rinaldi (Sayville, NY/Sayville) then hit a double to left center bringing home Gavigan and Zarcone (4-1).
For the last run of the top of the fourth for the Dolphins, Redshirt junior third baseman
Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse/ Onondaga C.C.) grounded out to third as Dybacz scored (5-1).
The Pioneers would score their second and last run in the bottom of the sixth with Sam Kowalski singling to center field and Cayla Nista scored (2-5).
The Dolphins graduate pitcher
Laura Bennett (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) would be credited the win bringing her record this season to 9-18.
The Dolphin's next game will be tomorrow Monday, April 29
th for a conference home-series against Stonehill. Monday will consist of a doubleheader with game times at 2pm and 4pm and will conclude with a single game on Tuesday at 12pm at the Le Moyne Softball Complex – Syracuse, NY
