Edinboro, Pa. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 4-3 victory over Edinboro University on Friday.
The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead by claiming the point in the doubles competition with wins at the first two positions. Graduate students
Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Filborna Gymnasium/Northwood) and
Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) improved to 14-3 in dual matches with a 6-4 victory at the top spot over Gordon Mileusnic and Fabricio Sosa. Junior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student
Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb) earned a 6-4 win over Stanislas Noel and Thibault Dorval at the second spot to improve to 9-3 at the position. Thomas Buchard and Manav Sreekumar were 6-4 winners at the third position over graduate students
Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and
Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense).
Le Moyne captured the victory in the match by splitting the singles competition. Hatton registered his team-best 14th singles win of the season, 6-3, 6-0, over Mileusnic at the top spot for his 49th career win, which is tied for the third-most in the program's history. Grundstroem defeated Noel at the second position, 6-3, 6-4. Stojanovic earned the point at the fifth spot when Sosa retired with the match tied at one set apiece, 6-3, 3-6. Buchard won the longest match of the day, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, over Nunez at the third position. Dorval downed Piekarek at the fourth spot, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Rocco Palombarini tallied a 6-3, 7-5 win over Beires at the sixth position.
Le Moyne (10-9) is back in action at the Northeast Conference Championships next Friday at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
