6/4/2024 10:00:00 AM

Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College Assistant Vice President of Athletics & Recreation Bob Beretta announced his resignation on Tuesday morning to accept the position of Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at St. Bonaventure University.

Beretta will continue in his role at Le Moyne through June 21. The College will name an interim athletic director as it conducts a search for a permanent replacement.

"I am thrilled for St. Bonaventure University and for Bob," said Le Moyne College President Linda LeMura. "I understand the powerful pull to return to his alma mater. He has done a remarkable job in moving Le Moyne to Division I. SBU is getting a seasoned leader whose focus is on student development and comprehensive excellence. We will miss Bob, but wish him only the best in his new position. Go Bonas!"

"To have the chance to return and serve my alma mater, the institution that transformed me academically, socially and professionally, the place that inculcated all the values I was able to take into my career, is an amazing opportunity," said Beretta, who graduated magna cum laude from SBU in 1987 with a degree in Mass Communication.

Beretta came to Le Moyne in the Spring of 2021 as Director of Athletics following a 34-year tenure at Army West Point and was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Athletics & Recreation in the Summer of 2023.

Continuing a decades-long run of academic excellence, Le Moyne's student-athletes have extended their streak to 42 consecutive semesters that they have maintained an overall grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Competitively, the Dolphins registered six conference championships, seven regular season conference crowns, three conference divisional titles, 16 NCAA berths, one NCAA Championships East sub-regional crown and one National Championship during Beretta's tenure leading Le Moyne's department.

During the 2022-23 academic year alone, Dolphin squads combined to capture three Northeast-10 Conference regular-season championships, one league divisional title, two NE10 postseason championships and one NCAA Championships East sub-Regional crown. Additionally, the men's lacrosse team held a No. 1 national ranking most of the year and reached the National Semifinals for the third consecutive season. Individually, 14 Dolphin Student-Athletes earned Academic All-District honors, 27 Dolphin Student-Athletes earned All-Region honors and 12 gained All-America status during 2022-23.

During the spring 2022 semester, six Le Moyne athletic programs received NCAA invitations, the second-highest total in school history, with the Dolphins' men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse, men's golf and baseball teams all reaching the postseason. It marked the first time in school history that both tennis teams advanced to the NCAAs, with the women registering the program's first postseason win and the men reaching the Nationals (final round of 16) for the first time in history. The men's team finished the season ranked 25th nationally, its highest ranking ever.

Additionally, the baseball team's NCAA showing was its first since 2018, while the defending National Champion-men's lacrosse squad reached the National Semifinals for the 16th time in 20 years.

Dolphin student-athletes posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.346 during the fall 2021 semester, their highest fall semester mark in more than a decade, and set a school record with 289 student-Athletes named to the NE10 Honor Roll.
