Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's volleyball team will open up the 2024 season as they host Lafayette College on Friday, Aug. 30 at 11:00 A.M. on Ted Grant Court amidst the Salt City Classic tournament. The matchup will be followed later that same day as the 'Phins will also host Canisius on Friday at 7:00 P.M.
Le Moyne will finish out their weekend and the invitational at home on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 5:00 P.M. against NJIT.
2024 'Phins Roster:
Le Moyne comes into the new season with a fresh look as the team will boast 11 freshmen in '24. As for the returners, junior middle hitter Kayla Anstett (Rochester, NY) led the team in kills and blocks in 2023, junior setter/DS Haley Gerken (Buffalo, NY) tallied a team-high in assists and service aces, junior middle hitter Nil Ezgi Tasdelen (Izmir, Turkey) started all 25 matches as a sophomore, sophomore libero/DS Haley Buescher (Toledo, OH) secured 128 digs in her freshman season, and sophomore opposite/middle hitter Branwyn Lupton (Napanee, ON) recorded 84 kills in 23 matches as a first-year.
A Look at the Competition:
Lafayette rounded out their 2023 season with a 9-15 record, falling short of the Patriot League playoffs. The Leopards' roster comes into the 2024 season with experience as 11 upperclassmen will take the court this year.
Canisius went 10-16 overall in 2023 and will open their season against NJIT at 2:00 P.M. on Friday. The Golden Griffs come into 2024 bringing back last year's team leaders in kills, assists, aces, digs, and blocks.
NJIT finished out 2023 with a 9-17 record, and will look to get their campaign started on the right foot with a number of high-quality starters returning this season.
What's Next:
Following the weekend's events against Lafayette, Canisius, and NJIT, the Dolphins will head to Philadelphia, PA to take part in the Penn Invitational. They face-off against Manhattan College (1:00 P.M.) and Morgan State University (4:00 P.M.) on Friday, Sept. 13 before taking on the University of Pennsylvania at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, Sept. 14.
