Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team finished out the Salt City Invitational on Saturday evening, taking on the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Highlanders took the first three sets to win the first match with set scores of; 25-10, 26-24, 26-24.
For the Dolphins, freshman outside hitter Jordyn Hamlin (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) led the squad with ten kills, while also recording five digs, and a service ace in the match. Junior middle hitter Kayla Anstett (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) and freshman outside hitter Nina Salas (Austin, T.X. / McNeil) followed closely behind with seven kills of their own against the Highlanders. Junior setter Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) put up a team-high in assists with 28 while also adding seven digs, and freshman libero Brooke Menke (St. Louis M.O. / Visitation Academy) added the high in digs with 12. Sophomore opposite hitter Branwyn Lupton (Napanee, O.N. / Napanee District Secondary School) added six more kills for Le Moyne.
Gerken was voted to the All-Tournament team after totaling 67 assists, 19 digs, two block assists, and two service aces throughout the 'Phins three games in the Salt City Classic.
For the Highlanders, Sara Seifert led the team in kills with 10 while adding eight digs. Ema Torres (nine), Ines Varela and Aries Fontaine (seven apiece) followed closely behind in kills. Finley McAndrew led NJIT in assists with 18 while Cece Marino added 10 as well. Sara Seifert led the Highlanders in digs with six in the victory.
The Dolphins will travel to take part in the Penn Invitational where they will play both Manhattan University and Morgan State University in Philadelphia, P.A. on Friday, Sep. 13, beginning at 1:00 P.M.
