FDU DOWNS VOLLEYBALL IN MIDWEEK NEC CLASH

Hackensack, N.J.  – The Le Moyne College volleyball team traveled to take on NEC rival FDU in a conference match on Wednesday evening. The Dolphins dropped the match in three sets, with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-14. Le Moyne now has a 1-14 overall record while going 0-3 in conference play this season.  

In set one, Le Moyne remained with one point following back-to-back kills by junior opposite hitter Branwyn Lupton (Napanee, O.N. / Napanee District Secondary School), 11-10, before FDU went on a late run to score four straight points and took the set, 25-15. During set two, FDU came out to a quick 6-2 lead before extending it to nine points towards the middle of the match. Four consecutive points allowed the Knights to come away with a 25-18 set victory. The third set began neck-and-neck before FDU put together a six-point streak to go up, 12-5. Despite a late comeback from the Dolphins that included kills from sophomore outside hitters Nina Salas (Austin, T.X. / McNeil) and Piper Hooey (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira), FDU was able to hold on to take the set and match with a 25-14 set win. 

Lupton led Le Moyne with nine kills while Salas finished just behind with another seven in the loss. Senior setter/DS Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) tied the match-high in assists with 19 as Salas led the 'Phins with three service aces against the Cougars. 

On the defensive end, Salas led with 12 digs while Gerken and sophomore libero/DS Brooke Menke (St. Louis, M.O. / Visitation Academy) each recorded another eight for the squad. Freshman middle hitter Eiley Schneider (Ramsey, N.J. / Ramsey) led with a pair of block assists while Salas, Hooey, and senior middle hitter Nil Ezgi Tasdelen (Izmir, Turkey / Ugur Okullari) each recorded one apiece, as well.

For Chicago State, Avery Bain (11) and Alessia Zampieri (10) led with double-digit kills as Isabella Scarfone (19) and Samantha Wittholz (17) put up team-highs in assists. Wittholz and Vittoria Bertoli tied for the match-high with three service aces against the Dolphins. Defensively,  Kyndal Ganoe added 17 digs while Bain and Angela Marchetto each recorded one block solo and Marchetto added a pair of block assists in the victory.

What's Next:
The Dolphins will travel to North Easton, Mass. for two NEC matches against Stonehill next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17-18.
