WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO STONEHILL IN NEC TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

Easton, Mass. – The second-seeded Stonehill College Skyhawks claimed a 60-41 victory over the fifth-seeded Le Moyne College women's basketball team in a Northeast Conference Tournament Semifinal matchup Thursday evening at Stonehill's Merkert Gymnasium.

The Skyhawks will make their first NEC Tournament Championship game appearance on Sunday when they meet top-seeded FDU at the Bogota Savings Bank in Hackensack.

Sophomore guard Brooke Paquette, senior guard Sharn Hayward, and graduate center Kylie Swider combined to score all but 10 of Stonehill's points during the playoff win.

Paquette registered a game-high 19 points with eight rebounds, four steals and two assists in 38 minutes played, while Swider tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Hayward added 15 points in 38 minutes of action. Senior forward Maureen Stapleton pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and distributed five assists.

Junior guard Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) and sophomore forward Sydney Postell (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) led the Dolphins in scoring with eight points each, while freshman guard Eli Clark (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) added seven.

The playoff contest marked forward Haedyn Roberts' (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent) 117th game played as a Dolphin, which set a new Le Moyne women's basketball program record. Roberts, who surpassed 1,000 career points during Le Moyne's quarterfinal win at Saint Francis on Monday, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go along with five points and two steals against the Skyhawks.

Senior guard Emily Florvil (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth) tallied five of Le Moyne's 12 offensive rebounds and collected three steals during the setback, while senior forward Brianna Williams (Brampton, Ontario/Southwest Academy/Hartford) dished out a team-high three assists and sank three free throws.

The Dolphins shot just 3-of-18 from three-point range during the loss, which marks their third-worst three-point shooting percentage in a game this season.

Stonehill went 8-of-26 from long range, including 4-of-9 in the opening quarter, grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to register 17 second-chance points, and recorded 15 assists on 23 made field goals.

The Dolphins, which advanced to the NEC Tournament semifinals for the second time in their second year as a member of the NEC, conclude the 2024-25 campaign with a 7-24 record.

Stonehill shot 9-of-18 from the field in the opening frame, jumping out to a 15-0 lead and establishing a 22-7 advantage after 10 minutes of play.

Hayward knocked down three three-point field goals during the 15-0 run to start the game, and had 11 points at the end of the quarter.

Postell provided a spark for Le Moyne to begin the second quarter, scoring five points on two consecutive possessions, with a steal and a fastbreak layup followed by a three-pointer from the top of the key.

A driving layup from Clark with under 30 seconds left in the second made it 31-20 in favor of Stonehill at halftime.

The two sides traded baskets throughout the third period. A free throw from Megan Bodziony (Wakefield, R.I./St. Andrew's School/Fordham/Bryant) with 1:23 left in the third cut Le Moyne's deficit to 39-29, but Swider scored the final two baskets of the frame, including a jumper just before the buzzer, to give the Skyhawks a 14-point advantage heading into the fourth.

Stonehill extended its lead in the fourth, taking an 18-point lead with 8:11 remaining, and a 58-37 advantage following a three from Paquette at the 3:05 mark.
