Bernardo Teixeira (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundária Fontes Pereira de Mel/University of Porto/Delaware) won in singles and doubles action to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team to a 4-2 win over Coppin State University on Sunday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.
The Dolphins earned the point in the doubles competition for the seventh time this year. At the second spot, freshmen
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and
Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) blanked Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov and Aidan Thomas-Cogar, 6-0. Teixeira and freshman
Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) registered a 6-1 victory over Tinashe Whata and Dentry Mortimer at the third position to claim the point. Senior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and sophomore
Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy) were trailing Harsh Khetepal and Liam Murtaugh, 4-3, at the top spot when the point was clinched.
Le Moyne won three of the five matches to finish in the singles competition to secure the victory. Teixeira gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead by defeating Whata at the top spot, 6-0, 6-1. Khetepal was victorious at the second position over Matthew, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Murtaugh evened the match at two apiece with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win at the third spot over Maravillas. Freshman
Navya Verma (Patiala, India) recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the fourth position over Abdurakhmonov to put the Dolphins back in front. Freshman
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mortimer at the fifth spot. Boyev and Rishi Jalota were tied at 6-6 (2-2) in the first set of the sixth position when the matched was clinched.
Le Moyne (5-7) is back on the courts on Saturday at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt against FDU at 7:00 p.m.
