Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team will play its first Northeast Conference home game of the season on Saturday against Central Connecticut State University at 3:00 p.m.
The Dolphins and Blue Devils will be meeting on the field for the fourth time with the Dolphins winning each of the first three matchups. Saturday will mark the first time the teams meet on the Le Moyne campus as the 2006 meeting was held at Solvay High School. So far this season, the teams have played one common opponent, Vermont. The Dolphins fell 18-7 in their season opener on February 14, while the Blue Devils lost, 24-0, on Tuesday.
Le Moyne is 2-6 on the year, including 1-0 in NEC play, and is coming off a 15-5 win at Delaware State last Saturday in its NEC opener. Junior
Alexa Strelick led the Dolphins in the victory with career highs of six points, three goals and three assists.
On the season, sophomore
Maddi Barney leads the Dolphins offensively with 10 points on a team best-tying seven goals and three assists through five games played, while adding 13 draw controls. Strelick is tied with the second-most points with nine on six goals and three assists, while sophomore
Emily Noel has nine points on three goals and a team-high six assists. Senior
Grace Brinza leads the defense with eight caused turnovers to go with seven ground balls. Sophomore
Julia Blakeslee has a team-best 15 draw controls. Sophomore
Amanda Manfredi has played 445 of 480 minutes between the pipes and has 73 saves and a .410 save percentage.
The Blue Devils, who were picked to finish seventh in the NEC preseason coaches poll, are 0-7 on the year just under halfway through the season. They are coming off the aforementioned 24-0 loss at Vermont on Tuesday. Jaydn Jones made eight saves in just under 45 minutes of action.
Central Connecticut State opened the season with February losses at Quinnipiac, Rhode Island and Yale. Since the calendar has flipped to March, the Blue Devils have home losses to Lafayette, Iona and Saint Francis in their NEC opener, while then falling at Vermont.
The Blue Devils are led offensively by Makayla Winegar and Katie Hurlbut, who each have four points. Winegar has four goals, while Hurlburt has two goals and two assists. Ellie Gusitsch leads the defense with seven caused turnovers and has added seven ground balls. Jones has the most ground balls on the team with 11 as she has played 309 of 420 minutes between the pipes, while posting 68 saves and a .366 save percentage.
Following Saturday's contest, Le Moyne is next in action at FDU on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
